How many oceans are there on earth??


There are officially five named oceans in the world: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic Oceans. These five basins cover over 70% of Earth’s surface, with the Pacific being the largest and the Arctic the smallest. While historically four were taught, the Southern Ocean is now recognized by most, including the NOAA.
The Five Oceans:
Pacific Ocean: The largest and deepest ocean.
Atlantic Ocean: The second largest, separating the Americas from Europe and Africa.
Indian Ocean: Located south of Asia and between Africa and Australia.
Southern Ocean (Antarctic Ocean): Recognized as the fifth ocean, surrounding Antarctica.
Arctic Ocean: The smallest and coldest ocean, surrounding the North Pole.
