An Institution of Eminence under the IoE initiative of Ministry of Education, Government of India, Banaras Hindu University is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The university was founded by the great nationalist leader, educationist, freedom fighter and social reformer, Bharat Ratna, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji in 1916.

The 12th International Day of Yoga will be celebrated with great enthusiasm at Banaras Hindu University on June 21, 2026. The main event will take place at the iconic Malaviya Bhawan.

This year’s theme is for the International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The event will be attended by senior university functionaries, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Directors of Institutes, Deans of Faculties, Coordinators of Centres, as well as faculty members, officers, staff, and students. The programme will be held from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM at the lawns on both sides of Malaviya Bhavan and within its main auditorium, where collective yoga practice sessions will be conducted.

In the run up to the International Yoga Day, a 14-day Ashtanga Yoga Workshop is also being conducted by the university, following the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed for all participants.

As part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations, a series of yoga-related competitions is being organized from June 16 to June 19, attracting enthusiastic participation from students across various faculties of the university.

The 7th National Convention of Vijnana Bharati concluded at Banaras Hindu University with a call for an India-centric approach to Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in support of the national vision of .

Organised by the Centre for Vedic Sciences, BHU, in collaboration with IIT BHU Varanasi and IUCTE, Varanasi, the convention brought together policymakers, scientists, academicians and thought leaders from across the country and abroad for deliberations on critical issues relating to science, innovation and sustainable development.

Addressing the valedictory session, Prof. Abhay Karandikar and Prof. Gobardhan Das, Members of NITI Aayog, highlighted the importance of indigenous innovation, scientific advancement and drawing inspiration from India’s civilisational heritage while shaping the future.

BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi emphasized that while India’s rich knowledge traditions and cultural heritage are a source of pride, it is equally important to showcase achievements in science, technology, innovation and industry that can inspire the younger generation and contribute to national development.

On the occasion, a resolution was also adopted unanimously calling for a new India-centric STI Policy aimed at strengthening research, innovation, industry-academia collaboration, scientific communication in Indian languages and the integration of traditional knowledge with modern science.

The 7th National Convention of Vijnana Bharati kickstarted at as policy makers, academicians, and scientists gathered to brainstorm the science & technology roadmap of India. The programme was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Sh. Yogi Adityanath.

The convention is being organised by Centre for Vedic Sciences, BHU, in collaboration with IIT-IIT BHU Varanasi, & IUCTE. Speaking at the inaugural function, the Chief Minister said that research and innovation should ultimately contribute to human welfare, economic progress, and national development.

Highlighting India's rich scientific & knowledge traditions, Sh. Yogi Adityanath observed that research & innovation have always been integral to Indian civilization and have historically contributed to India's prosperity & global leadership.

In a significant step towards promoting sustainable mobility and enhancing public transportation facilities for students, faculty members, employees, and residents, a new bus service has commenced its operations connecting Banaras Hindu University with Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. As part of the initiative 8 electric buses will operate on the route, benefiting thousands of students, faculty members, staff as well as general public.

The service comes as a result of BHU’s social outreach efforts aimed at benefiting the society at large. The initiative, realized in collaboration with Varanasi City Transport Services Limited (VCTSL), seeks to provide an eco-friendly, affordable, and convenient mode of transportation while supporting green energy initiatives and addressing the long-standing demand for improved connectivity.
