🎉 MagiX is officially launched.
Last Friday, Madrid was the backdrop for a milestone moment in AI4Gov-X’s journey. MagiX is the first master’s programme in Europe to bring together Artificial Intelligence, Data Spaces, and Digital Government Transformation in a single, coherent learning journey, built specifically for civil servants and public-sector professionals. 38 partners. 20 countries. 12 months of work, and hundreds of conversations with the people who actually shape public services across Europe.
After more than a year of work, this was the day it all came together.
The launch was led by Alessandro Deserti (Politecnico di Milano) and Claudio Feijoo (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), before giving way to a rich panel discussion on “Upskilling the Civil Servant of the Future”, moderated by Gianluca Misuraca.
Panelists Gabriela Viale Pereira, J. Ignacio Criado, Pilar Torres, and Roel Dobbe brought perspectives from across academia, industry and public administration, a reflection of exactly the kind of cross-sector dialogue that MagiX is built around.
At its core, MagiX is about one thing: equipping today’s and tomorrow’s civil servants with the skills to lead government transformation, not just keep pace with it. Because digital change in the public sector doesn’t happen through technology alone. It happens through people.
The official unveiling took place following our third consortium meeting, and brought together academics, policymakers, practitioners, and alumni from AI4Gov, a community that has been part of this story from the start.
This is only the beginning. Follow AI4Gov-X to stay close to what comes next — and there is plenty coming.

Tomorrow we’re hosting an open event in Madrid, and it’s one we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
After two days of consortium meetings at IE University, we’re throwing open the doors to announce MagiX: the AI4Gov-X Master in AI, Governance Innovation & Digital Transformation. Europe’s first programme of its kind, designed from the ground up for public sector professionals navigating a world increasingly shaped by AI.
Anna Barbara, our Project Coordinator, will open the floor alongside Irene Blázquez Navarro, Director of the Center for the Governance of Change at IE University.
Then Alessandro Deserti (Politecnico di Milano) and Claudio Feijoo (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), the Co-Directors behind the educational programme, will walk us through what MagiX actually is and why we built it the way we did.
We’ll close with a panel conversation that gets into the harder question: what does it really take to prepare civil servants for the AI era? Not just tools and technology, but data governance, accountability, and institutional change. The panel will be moderated by our Scientific Director Gianluca Misuraca, and Gabriela Viale Pereira (University for Continuing Education Krems), Juan Ignacio Criado (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid), Pilar Torres (AMETIC), and Roel Dobbe (Delft University of Technology) bringing perspectives from across academia, industry, and government.
27 February, 13:00–14:00 CET
IE Tower, Madrid

🌍 As AI plays a growing role in public decision-making, one question matters more than ever: how do we build systems that make people in government stronger, not weaker?
In an article for Stanford Graduate School of Business, Michael McDowell explores why human-centred AI design matters and how education and skills determine whether AI enables meaningful change in government or introduces new risks.
A worthy read for anyone considering a future in public service, and for those thinking about the skills public administrations need to lead change.
