Twenty Teams Did Their Best in Second St Andrew Football Competition
June 2, 2019
Rain had been confidently forecast for the entire weekend, but football teams got in a day of play at the St Andrew Deanery Six-A-Side Invitational Football Competition sponsored by the Sports Development Foundation of Jamaica (SDF) on May 25.
The winners of the Deanery awards for football for the Age 8 - 10 age group was St Mary the Virgin; 11 – 13 St Jude and 14 – 16 St Phillip, Whitfield Town.
The day saw matches with a total of 20 teams playing six-a-side matches at Football Factory at Shortwood Teachers College. Teams could field both girls and boys as players, with the Church of the Transfiguration playing girls in all three age groups.
The specially invited teams gave the deanery Sunday School children robust challenges and contributed to a high quality of play for the tournament. Winning on overall points for 8-10 was Norbrook Strikers Orange, which got an advantage in the semi-final as Church of the Transfiguration forfeited. St Mary the Virgin lost to Norbrook Strikers Blue.
In the 11 – 13 group semi finals, St Jude’s won Mt View Baptist and Norbrook Yellow overcame St Phillip. The group was won by Norbrook Strikers Yellow.
The 14 to 16 group saw in the semi finals Mt View Baptist overcome St Phillip and Good Shepherd (A) go down to Football Factory United. The winner in the group was Football Factory United which won St Phillip.
The top player for the tournament was Jammome Lyle from Mt View who took the MVP and Top Scorer prizes for the 11-13 group.
In Ages 8-10 the MVP was Xavi Phillpotts and Top Scorer, Zack Wright, both from Norbrook Strikers Orange.

Verses are taken from the letter from the evangelists Paul and Timothy to the Church in Colossae. Paul was in prison in Rome at the time. Tychius and Onesimus helped to deliver the letter and take news about what was happening with the Christians in Rome to the Christians in Colossae.
The letter urges the friends in Colossae to continue to follow the teachings of christ with thankfulness and not to feel guilty about breaking from longstanding traditions, as these are not necessarily drawing them closer to God.
The letter also urges them to follow rules with regards to duties to persons in authority and also within the family.
The event was sponsored by the Sports Development Foundation of Jamaica and held on May 25 at Football Factory, Shortwood Teachers' College.
A total of 20 teams and 155 children participated in a day of six-a-side football across three age groups. Volunteers were from the St Jude's Anglican Church Scout Group.
