A Photoelectric sensor detects objects using a beam of light. It works by transmitting light from the emitter and receiving it through a receiver. When and object interrupts or reflects the light beam, the sensor changes its output signal.

✅ Object interrupts or reflects change in light
✅ Receiver detects change in light
✅ Output signal activates control systems

✅ Understanding 5/2 Way Solenoid Pneumatic Valves ✅

⚙️ Basic Definition

A 5/2-way solenoid valve is a type of directional control valve used in pneumatic systems to control the motion of a double-acting cylinder by directing compressed air to either side of the piston.

✅ Meaning of 5/2

⭕ 5 ports - The valve has five air connections (ports).
⭕ 2 positions - The valve has two switching states or positions.

✅ Ports Explanation

1 (P) Pressure port Connected to the compressed air supply.
2 (A) Working port Connected to one side of the double-acting cylinder.
4 (B) Working port Connected to the other side of the cylinder.
3 (R1) Exhaust port Exhaust air from port 2.
5 (R2) Exhaust port Exhaust air from port 4.

✅ Working Principle

The valve has two positions, controlled by a solenoid and a spring (or two solenoids).

⭕ Position 1 – De-energized (Rest position):

Solenoid is OFF.

Air flows: P → A

Exhaust: B → R2
→ Cylinder extends (or retracts, depending on connection).

⭕ Position 2 – Energized:

Solenoid is ON.

Air flows: P → B

Exhaust: A → R1
→ Cylinder retracts (or extends, depending on connection)

✅ Key Functions:

⭕ Generate flow of hydraulic fluid in the system.

⭕ Provide pressure to move actuators (cylinders, motors).

⭕ Ensure continuous hydraulic energy conversion (mechanical → hydraulic).

✅ Characteristics:

⭕ Simple and robust design.

⭕ Fixed displacement (delivers constant volume per revolution).

⭕ Moderate pressure capacity (usually up to ~250 bar).

⭕ Common in construction machinery, agricultural equipment, and industrial hydraulics.

✅ Pneumatic Double-Acting Cylinder (Double Air Cylinder)

Construction: Has two ports — one at each end of the cylinder.

Function:

Extension stroke: Compressed air enters the cap-end port, pushing the piston rod outward while the air on the rod side is exhausted.

Retraction stroke: Compressed air enters the rod-end port, pulling the piston rod back while the cap-end side is exhausted.

Key Point: Air pressure is used in both directions (extend and retract). This makes it more powerful, precise, and suitable for continuous motion compared to a single-acting cylinder (which has a spring return).

✅ 5/2 Way Single Solenoid Directional Control Valve (DCV)

5 ports and 2 positions:

Ports: P (pressure), A & B (to cylinder), R & S (exhausts)

Positions: Energized and De-energized

Single Solenoid with Spring Return:

When de-energized → the spring holds the valve in its default position (for example, extend position).

When energized → the solenoid shifts the spool to the other position (for example, retract position).

Function: Directs compressed air to either port A or port B of the double-acting cylinder, while exhausting the opposite side.
