Parents and guardians are advised not to send their children to school today, Tuesday 16 June, as all schools throughout Fiji are closed.
The decision was made by the,, which continue to monitor the worsening weather conditions across the country.
Persistent heavy rainfall, strong winds, coastal inundation and flooding are affecting many parts of Fiji, with further flooding expected. The closure is a precautionary measure to minimise unnecessary travel and ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, teachers and school communities.
Following consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and the Fiji Meteorological Service Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro is urging parents and guardians to keep children safely at home and not to attempt to cross flooded roads, bridges, creeks or rivers, or travel through affected areas.
The Ministry of Education, together with relevant authorities, will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates, including advice on the reopening of schools, when it is safe to do so.
The safety and wellbeing of Fiji’s children remain the highest priority.
