I just come to realize that, 'Our government is doing what they think is best', wether its best for us farmers is a debate for another day.
- What has been happening the past months on maize prices in Malawi is deeper than the average farmer can comprehend- it has been a game of manipulation, speculation- and we fell for it.
- What I do know though is that;
1. 'We eat alot of nsima in Malawi?'
2. We have a population problem in Malawi.
3. We don't produce enough maize for everyone in Malawi. 2.9 million tons, and we need 3.7 million tons.
4. We can not sustain buying Maize from other countries, we are broke as a country.
5. There is hunger every year and it will continue to get worse...
But mostly, 'As much as the government sets prices, its demand and supply factors that have the final say'.
* As farmers, lets accept that farming in Malawi is expensive and continue to grow our crops, unless the government is growing the deficit, 'People will always be hungry and want to eat' *
Good afternoon

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has extended a message of goodwill to Malawians for the festive season, further describing 2025 as the “Year of Rescuing the Nation”.
Professor Mutharika says since he assumed office in October this year, he has devoted his focus and energy to addressing the systemic challenges facing the country, which include the 4Fs: shortages of Food, Fuel, Forex and Fertilizers.
He has since called on the nation to uphold peace throughout the festivities and to welcome the new year with renewed dedication to hard work and patriotism.
