What is a model?
A model is a person with a role to advertise/ promote commercial products or to serve as a visual aid for people creating artwork.
The modeling industry is not just there for stroking the ego of some 5’4″, size 12 model that can ‘rock the runway’ like a tall slender girl in some restaurant or club
The other, vastly more important segment, is the commercial and fashion industry that utilizes models.
The fashion industry is a multi-Billion Dollars per year industry thats really, really big money and attractive models, that have a general visual appeal to human instincts (not the political correct ones, the ones that appeal to hour reptilian brain impulses) and those are being shown wearing the clothing in ways that accentuate the clothing and makes the potential buyer and wearer wanting to wear this dress/outfit, so catch some of the glamour, youthfulness, fun and exclusivity that are depicted in the photos
As in any product sales its based on instinctive emotions and the feeling it evokes in the potential buyer.
As the commercial and fashion industries produce a lot of product, every season and buying cycle there will always models being used and being of importance
I am not getting now into sample sizes and the differences between runway, catalog and editorial models just trust that there are differences that are significant and actually using slightly different models, where runway and editorial are using often either model, but the biggest difference is to catalog models but again thats a different discussion.

If you follow models on social media you’ll notice that some of them seem to have a lot of followers and to be very popular. What you need to understand is that, for most people, a big part of running a social media page or profile is marketing and talking things up (translation: making things sound really good) so what you are seeing is just what they are choosing to present to you. I’m not saying they are lying, but simply that they are marketing to their fans so they’re going to focus on the positive things. Some of the really popular models even have a social media managers to handle these things for them. All of that being said, these models are a small percentage of the overall number of models so comparing yourself to them, especially if you are new, probably isn’t a good idea. It’s fine to have a page and such, but understand that it takes time to build up a following if that is something that you want to include in your modeling goals.
BE HONESTABOUT YOUR MEASUREMENTS
Don't say you're skinnier than you are just to get a shoot. Once there, the stylist will have problems fitting you and the truth will come out. You could potentially lose future jobs due to word of mouth, and you could find yourself
CONSIDER SITUATIONAL MODELING
If you do not think the runway or magazines are the place for you, look into other types of modeling. Companies use models for special events or to promote specific products. There are fewer restrictions on body type and more emphasis on personality for these modeling jobs.
