Unfortunately, women and girls don't have the same opportunities as men in Malawi. They suffer from conservative patriarchal norms, which especially has an impact on women during their menstruation. Therefore, our vision is to improve the opportunities for girls and women in Malawi. We will try to break the taboos and myths about menstruation and make the menstrual period more uncomplicated and hygienic for the individual women.

We are a group of young Danes who are participating at Mayoka Lifeschool in Malawi placed in Eastern Africa. The vision of the school is to inspire increased sustainable awareness and global solidarity.
Malawi is among the 20 poorest countries in the world. 50% of the population lives below the poverty line and 25% in extreme poverty. Therefore, many women and girls can't afford sanitary products such as pads, tampons and soap. Instead they look to other alternatives such as using rags. In some cases, the women and girls are even forced to use dried cow f***s as a tampon. Sanitary products are a basic necessity, that everyone should have access to.
Because of this huge problem we are going to make a sponsor-event the 24. of November at Mayoka Village/ Lifeschool. Practically, we will swim as far as we can in Lake Malawi within two hours to collect money. All the collected money will go to menstrual-cups for Malawian women and girls. Each cup has a value of 8$.
You can help by either donating directly to the event or by sponsoring one or more of us, the students, through our website. On the website you can also read more about the event and our purpose. Click on "The swimmers" and you will have the opportunity to write who you want to sponsor and how much you want to donate per 100 metres.
