Tomorrow is Labour Day.
It exists because the Industrial Revolution broke people. Twelve-hour days. Six-day weeks. Children in factories. Mills that ate hands and railroads that ate lives. Workers organised, marched, and died to win the eight-hour day we now take for granted.

So Labour Day is not really about labour. It is about the moment humanity drew a line and said: this far, no further.
We are due another line.

A World Science Day already exists — UNESCO, 10 November. An AI Day is coming. The calendar always catches up to whatever we are anxious about.

What we need is a Human Day.

Not nostalgia. A day for the things no machine can replicate — judgment, relationships, taste, the kind of creativity that only comes from one person living one specific life. The things that are getting harder to spot in the noise, and easier to forget we are made of.

Or — cheekily — a Human + AI Day. Because the next milestone is not humans clawing back ground from machines. It is humans and AI working together without either one being diminished.

Labour Day was the last line we drew. The next one is ours to design.

If we ever did get a Human Day — what would you celebrate?

Yesterday I sat down with our Expert Council and put a proposition on the table:
What if we deployed a fully agentic AI employee — multiple skills, no fixed workflow, give it an outcome and let it figure out the rest?

The room went quiet. Then the questions came.
When something goes wrong, how do you find it?
What do you show the auditor?
Which regulator accepts "I don't know how it got there"?

Here is what we concluded.
Fully agentic AI is not the problem. The hype around it is.

The technology is real. The capability is coming. But the advancement has outrun the governance — and organisations that skip the foundation and leap straight to "agentic" are the ones that will fail publicly, expensively, and visibly.

Large organisations do not disrupt themselves. They adopt what they can govern, explain, and debug. For most of them right now, that means intelligent, policy-bound automation — desk-bound work, browser-based tasks, done intelligently but with a traceable decision trail at every step.
That is not the ceiling. That is the foundation.

Governance frameworks, audit trails, explainability, fine-tuning discipline — these are not the alternative to fully agentic deployment. They are what you build before you earn the right to deploy it.

So before your organisation buys into "fully agentic," answer three questions:
1️⃣ When it fails, can you find exactly where, what, and why?
2️⃣ Can you show an auditor the decision trail?
3️⃣ Is your governance framework built for a system that does not explain itself?

If the answer to any of these is no — start there. Build the foundation. Earn the next stage.
Fully agentic is the destination. But the road is built one governed step at a time — and the organisations that arrive will be the ones who refused to take shortcuts.

A dumpling shop in Beijing just became the first traditional restaurant in China to build an AI agent interface.

The owner built it in a few hours. It runs on MCP — the protocol that lets AI agents talk to each other. Any AI assistant in the world can now connect to this restaurant and ask it questions. Queue for a table. Check the menu. Get directions.

Here is where this goes.

In the near future, your personal AI agent will know what you eat, what you're allergic to, and what you're in the mood for. It will talk to the restaurant's agent. The restaurant's agent will confirm availability and flag anything that conflicts with your profile. Your agent asks you once: confirm?

You say yes. You never opened an app.

This is not a distant prediction. The infrastructure already exists. The dumpling shop is already on it.

Every business will need an AI address — an endpoint that other AI agents can find, talk to, and transact with. Not a website. Not an app. An agent interface.

The question for every business in ASEAN: when your customers' AI agents come looking for you, will you have one?

How did you spend Valentine's Day?
This year, we spent it with a room full of teachers and school administrators at Aspiration International School.
