๐ STOP SAYING "AM FINE"! ๐
Itโs everywhereโand many donโt even realize itโs incorrect.
โ๏ธ "Am coming."
โ ๏ธ"Am fine."
โ ๏ธ"Am not interested."
โ ๏ธ"Am grateful."
Let's break it down:
1. Am
"Am" is a helping verb.
It cannot stand alone โ it needs a subject.
โAmโ without โIโ is incomplete.
2. I'm
"I'm" is a contraction of "I am."
I + am = I'm
When you say โAm fine,โ youโve removed the subject โ so the sentence is incomplete.
โ
I am fine (full, formal)
โ
Iโm fine (correct contraction)
โ Am fine (missing subject)
โ
๏ธIโm coming
โ
๏ธ Iโm fine
โ
๏ธ Iโm not interested
โ
๏ธ Iโm grateful
3. When CAN you use โAmโ at the beginning?
Use "Am" ONLY if you are asking a question:
โ
Am I on track?
โ
Am I your friend?
Which one do you still see people use most?
A. Am coming
B. Am fine
C. Both

IF I WAS vs. IF I WERE
If I was you, I would apologize. โ
If I were you, I would apologize. โ
๐ Use โwereโ instead of โwasโ when talking about imaginary, unreal, or hypothetical situations. This is called the subjunctive mood in English grammar.
If I was rich, I would travel the world. โ
If I were rich, I would travel the world. โ
๐ You are not describing a real fact. You are imagining a situation, so โwereโ is the correct choice.
However ๐
If I was rude yesterday, Iโm sorry.
๐ Here, the speaker is talking about a possible real event in the past, so โwasโ is correct.
Quick Tip:
๐ Use โIf I wereโฆโ for imaginary situations.
๐ Use โIf I wasโฆโ for real past situations.
I hope this helps. Tell me in the comments ๐
