The Founder and Chancellor of Baze University, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed PhD FSAN, has pledged ₦25 million to support research into indigenous Nigerian knowledge systems following a thought-provoking inaugural lecture by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi.

The Seventh Inaugural Lecture of Baze University, held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, attracted academics, policymakers, traditional rulers, students, alumni, media practitioners, and other distinguished guests to the university auditorium in Abuja. Prof. Adeniyi delivered a lecture titled, “How Your Village Is Following You: Mobility, Memory and the Mediated Persistence of Belonging.”

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has described Baze University as one of the best private universities in Nigeria, with immense potential to soar to even greater heights in the years ahead.

The Minister made the remarks at a surprise reception organised in honour of the new Vice Chancellor of Baze University, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, at the upscale Vannilla Restaurant, Maitama, shortly after the delivery of the University’s Seventh Inaugural Lecture. While commending the institution for its impressive growth, academic excellence and contribution to higher education in Nigeria.

The lecture sparked rich conversations on migration, identity, technology, and cultural belonging, while highlighting the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge systems.

In a landmark announcement, the Founder and Chancellor of Baze University, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, PhD, FSAN, pledged ₦25 million to support research into Nigeria’s indigenous calendar and other indigenous knowledge systems, reaffirming the University’s commitment to scholarship, innovation, and African-centred knowledge production.

Renowned columnist, prolific author, and Professor at Kennesaw State University, Professor Farooq Kperogi, paid a collaborative visit to Baze University, where he was warmly received by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi.

The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions on academic collaboration, research, and knowledge exchange. Also present at the meeting was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Dr. Atiku Saleh Dambatta.

Baze University was honoured to receive a courtesy visit from the Management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, led by the Chief Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Saad Aliyu Ahmed, who congratulated our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, on his well-deserved appointment.

The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between both institutions and their shared commitment to advancing excellence in healthcare, education, and institutional collaboration.

Receiving the delegation alongside the Vice Chancellor were key members of Baze University’s management, including the Registrar, Ahmad Mahmoud Lawi; the Bursar, Mrs. Juliet Bature; the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Hindu Jibril; and the Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs. Walida Siddique Isa.

Prof. Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the FMC team for the thoughtful visit and reaffirmed Baze University’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the existing partnership with FMC Jabi for mutual growth and impact.
