PICKY EATING IN AUTISTIC CHILDREN ⭐️ isn't just about being a tiny dictator who rules the kitchen with an iron fist (although, let's be real, it can feel like it sometimes!). Many parents of autistic kids hear things like 'He's just being stubborn' or 'She's too old for this food drama,' but the truth is, picky eating in autistic children is often more complicated than having a food critic on a mission. Many autistic children experience sensory sensitivities that can make certain foods feel like a sensory overload. A food's texture, smell, taste, temperature, color, or even appearance can determine whether a child gives it a thumbs up or a 'no thanks.' What might seem like a minor difference to others can be extremely uncomfortable for an autistic child. Some kids might only eat foods that are crunchy, while others might refuse to try new foods because, well, new foods are scary! This can lead to frustration for parents who are trying their best to provide balanced meals without losing their cool. It's essential to understand that progress takes time, and pressuring a child to eat can increase anxiety and resistance. Instead, gentle exposure, patience, consistency, and positive encouragement can help children gradually become more comfortable with new foods. Every small step matters - like the day they tolerate looking at a new food, then touching it, and eventually, they might even taste it! These are all meaningful achievements worth celebrating. At Shinning Dreams Together Special Needs, we get the challenges families face, and we're committed to supporting kids as they develop healthy eating habits and greater independence.

WHY EVERY CHILD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS NEEDS AN IEP
Many parents say, "My child is fine; he or she will outgrow it." While every parent hopes for the best, progress begins when we understand exactly where a child is developmentally.
An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a personalized roadmap designed to help a child achieve specific developmental goals. It is not created based on guesswork. Before an IEP can be developed, a child must first undergo a thorough assessment, either through standardized tests or informal evaluations conducted by qualified professionals.
Assessment helps answer important questions:
✔ What are the child's strengths?
✔ What areas need support?
✔ What level or severity of difficulty is present?
✔ What goals should be prioritized?
Whether a child has autism, cerebral palsy, speech delay, ADHD, or other developmental challenges, understanding the child's current level of functioning is crucial. Autism presents differently in every child, and cerebral palsy also varies in severity and functional ability. Knowing where your child stands allows therapists to provide the right intervention rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Once an assessment is completed, a qualified therapist can use the report to develop an IEP tailored specifically to your child's needs. The IEP serves as a guide for therapy sessions, tracks progress, sets realistic goals, and ensures that every intervention is purposeful and measurable.
Early identification and intervention can make a significant difference in a child's future. Delaying assessment because of fear, denial, or the hope that a child will simply "catch up" may result in missed opportunities for growth and development.
Your child's future deserves more than assumptions—it deserves a plan.
*At Shinning Dreams Together Special Needs* ,we believe every child can make meaningful progress when intervention is guided by proper assessment, clear goals, and consistent support.
Don't wait. Assess. Plan Intervene. Progress.

One of the hidden struggles many autistic parents face is helping their child complete school assignments. What may seem like a simple task can become overwhelming due to challenges with attention, communication, sensory sensitivities, and understanding instructions.
Parents often spend hours breaking tasks into smaller steps, providing constant prompts, and managing frustration or meltdowns along the way. Behind every completed assignment is a parent showing patience, dedication, and unwavering love.
To all autism parents, your efforts matter, and every small achievement is a victory worth celebrating.

Brain Gym-Hand-Eye Coordination Activity
This bilateral coordination activity helps children use both sides of their body and brain together while improving attention, visual tracking, and motor planning. By locating and responding to the numbers with accuracy, children strengthen their Hand-eye coordination, concentration, and processing speed.
For autistic children, activities like this support body awareness, improve focus, encourage bilateral integration, and build foundational skills needed for writing, self-care, sports, and everyday independence.
At Shinning Dreams Together Special Needs, we use engaging Brain Gym activities to make learning fun while promoting cognitive and motor development.

Understanding Your Child's Laughter in Therapy Sessions.
I wanted to take a moment to share some insights into a behavior. We sometimes see in
therapy:your child's laughter at moments. When nothing seems funny. This laughter can often be a natural response to sensory overload or internal stress. Many autistic children use laughter as a way to self-regulate when they feel anxious or overstimulated.
In our sessions, I'm closely observing these moments and adjusting the environment to help your child stay engaged. We use structured routines, calming strategies, and visual supports to help them refocus. Please know this is a normal part of their development, and together, we're building a safe space for them to thrive.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss further please feel free to reach out to us in thr comment session or Whatsapp:08072749437.
