🔬Science meets Pilates 🧪

As a biologist, here’s what I see when I watch someone do a Pilates roll down…

It’s not just “stretching” — it’s your nervous system learning control.

As you slowly articulate your spine, vertebra by vertebra, your deep stabilising muscles (like the transverse abdominis) are working to control movement while your fascia (the connective tissue wrapping your muscles) is being gently loaded and rehydrated.

This combination improves proprioception (your body’s awareness in space), helping you move with more precision, less tension, and better alignment.

This is a rolldown on the Tower, one of my favourite movements for building body awareness, and reconnecting with your breath.

Every vertebra rolling down to the mat then peeling away from the bed, one by one. Tower helping to give you time to organise your body.

Before I guide your body, let me tell you a little about mine, and the path that brought me here.

My name is Julie. I'm a certified Pilates instructor and I hold a PhD in Biology. Thus when I look at movement, I see more than just exercise. I see the nervous system waking up. The fascia releasing. The deep stabilisers finally doing the work they were designed for.

I discover Pilates through rehab for a dance injury amd I never looked back. Pilates help me tremendously but also follow my personal belief that movement should be thoughtful, precise, and deeply personal. Not a one-size-fits-all class. A practice built around you.
