*जगद्गुरु आदेश:*
सेवा का अर्थ -
सेवा शब्द का अर्थ है - 'आज्ञा सम न सुसाहिब सेवा।' अपने स्वामी की आज्ञापालन करना - इसी का नाम सेवा है।
इस बात को नोट कर लो, भगवत्प्राप्ति के बाद तक काम आएगा - अपनी इच्छानुसार काम करना, ये स्वामी की सेवा नहीं है - ये तो अपनी सेवा हुई। सेवा का मतलब है स्वामी को सुख देना, स्वामी की रुचि में रुचि रखना, स्वामी की आज्ञा का पालन करना। उदाहरण के लिए अगर स्वामी ने हमसे कहा - "हमारे पास से चले जाओ!", तो तुरंत वहाँ से सहर्ष चले जाओ, मूड ऑफ़ करके नहीं। ये सोचो कि, "मुझे उनको सुख देना है। मेरे हट जाने से उनको सुख मिलेगा।"

तो सेवा तीन प्रकार की होती है - चेतस्तत् प्रवणं सेवा। तत् सिद्ध्यै तनु-वित्तजा।
1) चेतस्तत् प्रवणं सेवा - मनुजा - मन से सेवा करना - जब तक भगवान् नहीं मिलेंगे, तब तक हम ध्यान करेंगे। आँख बंद करके मन से सोचा श्यामसुंदर सामने खड़े हैं, अब हम उनको नहला रहे हैं, अब उनके शरीर को पोंछ रहे हैं, अब उनको कपड़े पहना रहे हैं, अब उनको खाना खिला रहे हैं आदि, सब मन से करेंगे। ये मन से जो सेवा करते हैं, इसे मानसी सेवा कहते हैं और ये लिखी जाएगी उसी प्रकार जैसे गोलोक में भक्त सेवा करते हैं। ये सबसे श्रेष्ठ सेवा है।
और तत् सिद्ध्यै - जब तक भगवत्प्राप्ति नहीं होती, तो उसकी सिद्धि के लिए -
2) तनुजा - शरीर से सेवा करना। भगवान् के मंदिर में मूर्ति की सेवा। अथवा अगर कोई संत मिल जाएँ, वो भगवान् के दूसरे रूप हैं, उनकी शरीर से सेवा करना।
3) वित्तजा- धन से सेवा करना। हमारे पास जो कुछ धन है वो सब भगवान् का है। इसलिए उस धन को उनकी सेवा में लगाना है। हमारा अधिकार उतने ही धन पर है जितने में हमारा शरीर का पालन पोषण हो जाए। इससे अधिक अगर कोई अपने पास धन रखता है तो वो चोर माना जायेगा और उसको दंड मिलता है - यावत् भ्रियेत जठरं तावत् स्वत्वं हि देहिनाम्। अगर धन नहीं है तो कोई दंड नहीं मिलेगा। अगर किसी के पास दस रुपए हैं और उसका उसने दान कर दिया तो वो एक अरबपति का अरब रुपए दान करने के बराबर दान माना जायेगा, क्योंकि दोनों ने अपना सब कुछ दे दिया।

लेकिन मन, तन और धन तीनों सेवा स्वामी की इच्छानुसार होनी चाहिए, अपनी इच्छानुसार नहीं। जो स्वामी से कुछ मांगे वो दास नहीं है। स्वामी जो अपनी इच्छा से दे दें, वो ले लो। चूंकि स्वामी सर्वज्ञ हैं, इसलिए जो हमको आवश्यकता होगी वो देंगे। किसको क्या देने में क्या कल्याण है, किसके क्या चीज़ छीनने में कल्याण है, ये भगवान् जानते हैं। हमें अपनी बुद्धि नहीं लगानी चाहिए। उनकी हर क्रिया को कृपा समझो। कुछ आया तो भी कृपा, गया तो भी कृपा। सब कृपा है। अगर केवल आने-आने को कृपा मानेंगे तो जाने को कोप मानना पड़ेगा और ऐसे हम एक दिन नास्तिक हो जाएँगे। तो भगवान् और गुरु की इच्छा में इच्छा रखना, इसी का नाम शरणागति है, इसी का नाम है सेवा।

दो प्रकार की स्थिति की सेवा होती है -
1) साधनावस्था की सेवा - जब तक दिव्य प्रेम नहीं मिलता, तब तक दिव्य भावना बनाकर सेवा की जाती है। जब तक भगवान् नहीं मिलते तब तक गुरु की सेवा की जाती है।
2) सिद्धावस्था की सेवा - जब गोलोक जाते हैं तब गुरु और भगवान् दोनों वहाँ रहते हैं, तो भक्त वहाँ दोनों की सेवा करता है।

तो भक्त कहता है - "भुक्ति मुक्ति दोनों डाकिनी हैं, ये हम नहीं चाहते। हम केवल आपकी निष्काम भक्ति चाहते हैं, जिससे आपकी सेवा करके आपको सुख दे सकें।" ये हमारा लक्ष्य है।

*Jagadguru Aadesh:*
The true meaning of seva -
The meaning of the word 'seva' is - 'ājñā sama na susāhiba sevā' - to obey the instructions of your master. Take note of these words. They will help you even after God-realization. To serve the master according to your own wishes is not seva; instead, it is serving yourself. Seva means to be happy in your master's happiness, to align your wishes with His wishes, and to obey His instructions. For example, if your master says, "Go away from here!", leave that place immediately and happily, without getting upset. You should think, "My goal is to make him happy. If I go away from here, he will become happy."

There are three types of seva: cetastat pravaṇaṃ sevā। tat siddhyai tanu-vittajā।
1) Cetastat pravaṇaṃ sevā - manujā - Serving Him with your mind. Until you attain God, meditate on Him. With closed eyes, visualize Shyamsundar standing before you, then bathe Him, dry His body with a towel, put clothes on Him, feed Him, and so on. Perform every service with your mind. Meditating in this way is called mānasi seva, and God will regard this seva as having been done with the mind, just as devotees serve in Golok. This is the highest form of seva.
And, tat siddhyai - meaning, to strengthen your preparatory devotion before God-realization -
2) tanujā - Serving God and saints with your body. This includes physically serving the deity in a temple or physically serving a saint, who is another form of God.
3) vittajā - Serving God and saints with your wealth. All your wealth belongs to God. Therefore, you should use that money to serve Him, and you are only allowed to use as much wealth as is necessary to sustain your body. If you hoard excess wealth, you will be considered a thief and will be punished - yāvat bhriyeta jaṭharaṃ tāvat svatvaṃ hi dehinām. If you do not have wealth, you will not be punished. If someone has ten rupees and donates it all, his donation will be considered equal to a billionaire donating a billion, because both gave their entire wealth.

However, seva done with mind, body, and wealth should be according to the master's wishes, not your own. A servant who asks for anything from the master is not a true servant. If the master gives something on his own, then accept that happily. Since the master is omniscient, he will provide you with whatever you need. Only God knows what is beneficial to give to whom and what is beneficial to take away from whom. Do not exercise your intellect in this. Accept every action of His as grace. Whether you receive something or lose something, it is all If you do not accept this and consider His action as grace only when you receive something, then when you lose something, you will regard it as His anger. In this way, you will eventually become an atheist. Therefore, desiring only what God and Guru desire is called surrender; this is seva.

There are two stages of devotion when we can do seva :
1) Sādhanāvasthā - This is the stage of preparatory devotion. Until you attain divine love, you serve God with divine sentiments. Until you attain God, serve your Guru.
2) Siddhāvasthā - This is the stage after God-realization. When you attain Golok, both Guru and God reside there. At that time, you will serve both of them.

The devotee says, "I do not desire bhukti (worldly pleasures) or mukti (liberation). Both of these are dangerous - they are like witches. I only want Your selfless devotion so I may make You happy by serving You." This is your goal..
