Keep Learning Mid Canterbury

We're kicking off July with a fun Keep Learning event - a WEST COAST SWING DANCING workshop!

If you've seen West Coast Swing dancing reels on your facebook feeds and have been as wowed as I have, read on! (And if you haven't try youtube searching for West Coast Swing Jack & Jill- to see how amazing the *improvised* dances can be).

Thanks to Creative Communities grant funding we are bringing tutors from 'Code 03 Swing' in Christchurch, to Ashburton, to run a half day workshop for anyone interested in giving it a go.

West Coast Swing is a smooth, modern partner dance but you don't need to bring a partner for the workshop - we'll rotate throughout the class so everyone gets a chance to dance and learn together. West Coast Swing is danced to everything from pop and blues to contemporary hits, making it one of the most versatile and social dance styles around.

27 people have already got their tickets but we can take a few more!

The Big Dress Up Quiz - post 3

Was so good to see lots of teams dress up for our quiz which added to the fun of the night. There were some really challenging quiz questions and some fun ones too... something for everyone we hope.

This will be an annual fundraiser for us, held on the Friday after King's Birthday each year, so if you missed it, or attended and want to repeat the good times - save the date for the next one... Friday June 11, 2027.

Wonder if we can beat our total raised this year of $2856?

The Big Dress-Up Quiz night - Post 1 - our winners!

🎉Congratulations to our winning teams and thanks to all those who came along on Friday for our inaugural quiz fundraiser.

🥇Quiz Winners on 94.5 points - It's Quizness Time. 1st prize hamper donated by ANZ Ashburton

🥈Runner up on 83.75 points - FMG Risky Quizness. 2nd prize hamper sponsored by Forsyth Barr

🥉Third place on 76.5 points (just one point ahead of team 'Last Minute') was the PB Crayons. 3rd prize chocolate & other goodies sponsored by Ashburton New World

🤩 Best dressed team... the Mexicans aka Norfolk-n-clue. Their prize (6 passes for a VR Escape Room at Virtual and Retro) was donated by Accountantz Ltd.

😮 Our surprise prize this year went to the Second to last placed team... 'Bee Busy'. Talleys / Season's Best sponsored this prize- a box full of frozen veges for each team member! They left quickly - probably to ensure their frozen veg got home and into the freezer- so we didn't get a photo of them with their prize boxes.

🎉🎉Today's the day for our inaugural Big Dress-Up Quiz! 🎉🎉

We have a pretty full house - with 17 teams registered and ready to go. I wonder how many are dressing up as a quiz round?

One team has people who don't know each other in it - and they would love a 6th team member to join them - would be nice to have another guy but anyone who is keen, please get in touch! You don't want to miss this fun evening and the chance to meet some new people. 🤩

For those who've registered... see you at the Senior Centre... doors open at 5.30pm and quiz starts promptly at 6.30pm. No door sales or entry for teams who haven't registered.
