The month of May has come to a conclusion and well as the 2026 Chinese Bridge Competition. The competition kicked off on May 15 at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) in Lae, hosting the 25th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students . Just one week later, on May 22, the spotlight shifted to the Butuka Academy in Sabama, Port Moresby, for the 19th edition of the secondary school students' competition.
The competition in Unitech was attended by the Minister-Counsellor Pang Hanzhao, the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in PNG, University Senior Management, Staff and students and also the Chinese PNG Friendship Association members, Lae Metropolitan Staff and other CI Unitech students. At the end of the competition Stella Napale became the 25th Chinese Bridge Competition for Foreign College Students Champion.
As for Butuka, the School had attendees such as the Minister-Counsellor Pang Hanzhao, the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in PNG, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Confucius Institute PNG Director Prof. Kaul Gena. The competition was also attended by Butuka Academy Staff and Students and Members of the Chinese PNG Friendship Association. Out of all the students who participated in the 19th Chinese Bridge Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students Ruth Laeka won the competition.
Both students stood out with outstanding Chinese expression skills, steady live play and outstanding comprehensive performance to win and they will get a chance to represent PNG in the 2026 Chinese Bridge Competition (World Finals) for their respective categories which will happen in China.
