As part of the campus press across the country, marked World Press Freedom Day 2026 with a renewed call to protect truth and uphold responsible storytelling in an age of fast-moving information.
Arcollective Publication, as a student publication not just commemorate the day but we lived it. From early morning editorial meetings to late-night layout revisions, young writers, editors, and photojournalists worked behind the scenes to produce stories that matter to their communities. For many, campus journalism is more than a requirement; it is a commitment to give voice to the unheard.
โPress freedom is the unrestricted flow of truth. It allows information to move without filters, fear, or manipulation, guided only by integrity and responsibility. Through this freedom, the press becomes a bridge between reality and the people, sustaining awareness, justice, and democracy.โ said Kaizha Quimio, and architecture student and the associate editor of Arcollective Publication.
โWithout discrimination, without manipulating the minds of the people, press freedom is an instrument for those who do not have a power to fight for what is right, and to know the truth the hidden behind the propagandas.โ said Daniel San Buenaventura, an architecture student and the head layout artist of Arcollective Publication.
In the Philippines, where media practitioners continue to face challenges, the observance serves as a reminder that truth requires courage. Student journalists, though often overlooked, play a crucial role in shaping awareness at the grassroots level. Through feature stories, opinion pieces, and real-time happenings, they mirror the realities faced by their generation.
Organizations like UNESCO, which leads the global commemoration, emphasize the importance of safeguarding freedom of expression and ensuring access to reliable information which are principles that resonate even within school walls.
As the day concluded, in drafting rooms turned newsrooms, Arcollective Publication reaffirmed their mission: to inform, to question, and to stand firm in the pursuit of truth,

From Concept to Completion: UPHSD-C Architecture Deliberations End with 21 Passers, Top 5 Rise Above the Rest
โ๐ป: Desiree Kyle Oliver
After months of sleepless nights, silent battles, and relentless dedication, twenty-one Perpetualite architecture students successfully defended their architectural design thesis in this yearโs thesis deliberations on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 held on the UPHSD-C 2nd floor of Engineering Building (Room 213, 214, and 215).
The thesis defenses were evaluated by a panel of distinguished architects composed of both internal (Ar. Myron Alvin Matanguihan, Ar. Gerelson Ray Bernardino, Ar. Glenn Llona, Ar. Kris Jon Jay Aranilla, and Ar. Larry Osacdin) and external members (Ar. Joanne Cristabel Bernardino, Ar. Lucy Lizardo, Ar. Florante Pendon, Ar. Lewraine Clarizse Umali, Ar. Dan Paulo Umali).
Emotions ran high as the results were announced. Many students were moved to tears of relief and joy upon learning they had passed, a milestone that marked the culmination of their academic journey. Outside the deliberation rooms, they were warmly embraced and congratulated by friends and peers who shared in their achievement.
Before the day concluded, the Top 5 fifth-year architecture students and their respective thesis projects were officially announced, recognizing the most outstanding works presented during the deliberations. The selection was based on design excellence, innovation, technical competence, and the studentsโ ability to effectively communicate their concepts before the panel of jurors.
The announcement marked one of the most anticipated moments of the event, as peers, faculty members, and mentors gathered to celebrate the achievements of the finalists. Their projects stood out among the twenty-three entries, reflecting not only architectural skill but also creativity, critical thinking, and responsiveness to real-world design challenges.
