As we celebrate Mother’s Day, the IHSN Nursing community also pays tribute to the woman lovingly regarded as the “Mother of Modern Nursing” — Florence Nightingale.

Her compassion, courage, and unwavering dedication to caring for others continue to inspire every nurse, educator, and student to serve with both competence and heart. Through her legacy, we are reminded that nursing is not only a profession, but a calling grounded in empathy, sacrifice, and genuine human connection.

To all mothers, mother figures, and nurses who nurture, heal, and inspire each day — thank you for embodying the same spirit of care and selflessness that Florence Nightingale lived by.

Happy Mother’s Day from the IHSN Nursing family. 💚💛🩺

Bridging the Gap: How Dean Moira Uy’s Innovation Saved a Generation of Nurses

As pandemic-era learning gaps threatened the readiness of future nurses, one academic leader turned uncertainty into measurable excellence—achieving a 98.71% RN licensure success rate.

March 2026 / BEST Healthcare Rankings

When Dr. Moira Uy stepped into her role as Dean of Nursing at Far Eastern University, she faced a challenge unlike any other. Due to pandemic disruption, a generation of graduating nursing students had spent two critical years in fully online learning— without having gone through the customary admissions and qualifying evaluations. The risk was clear: a potential gap in readiness for real-world clinical practice.

Rather than accept these limitations, Dr. Uy chose decisive action.

“A comprehensive strategy was developed to strengthen clinical reasoning, content mastery, and examination preparedness,” she shared. The result was an ambitious, nearly 300-hour in-house enhancement program—offered entirely free to students. Backed by over one million pesos in institutional investment, the initiative reflected a bold commitment to equity and excellence.

The outcome was nothing short of remarkable. “First-time takers achieved a cumulative passing rate of 98.71 percent,” Dr. Uy noted, emphasizing that the results were not just academic metrics but proof of what purposeful leadership can achieve in times of disruption.

Beyond academic recovery, Dr. Uy demonstrated unwavering integrity in leadership. Faced with a sensitive issue—faculty holding multiple full-time roles in violation of institutional policy—she balanced compassion with accountability.

“Empathy alone cannot replace accountability,” she said. “Upholding integrity—even at great cost—ensures trust, consistency, and respect within the academic community.”

Her decision to enforce policy, even at the expense of losing capable educators, underscored a leadership philosophy grounded in fairness and ethical governance. It was not the easiest path—but it was the right one.

Yet, what truly distinguishes Dr. Uy’s leadership is her human-centered approach. Managing a college of over 4,000 students within a university of more than 20,000 requires more than systems and processes—it demands connection.

“I wanted colleagues to recognize the face behind every message,” she reflected. “In the end, people remember not the position you hold, but how you make them feel.”

From knowing staff by name to fostering interdepartmental collaboration, Dr. Uy exemplifies relational leadership—one rooted in respect, authenticity, and daily practice.

In an era where healthcare outcomes begin with the quality of education, Dr. Moira Uy’s work stands as a powerful reminder: excellence is not accidental—it is built through vision, courage, and integrity.

Aligned with the BEST Healthcare Rankings, her story affirms that the future of healthcare depends not only on skilled practitioners, but on leaders who can transform adversity into opportunity—ensuring that the next generation of nurses is not just prepared, but exceptional.
