Bridging Faith and Management Practice

The Management and Organization Department (MOD) is a synergy of two significant historic streams in business education in De La Salle University. ABSTRACT

This proposal investigates the transformation of entrepreneurial opportunity identification, conceptually redefined here as opportunity actualization, driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Historically, aspiring and established entrepreneurs have struggled to realize opportunities due to inherent cognitive limits, restricted networks, and bounded rationality, which create severe structural bottlenecks. This highly constrained process is fundamentally disrupted when AI acts as an interactive cognitive partner. Grounded in a Critical Realist ontology, this qualitative study examines the individual entrepreneur's cognition to answer: Through what mechanisms does human-AI collaboration reconfigure entrepreneurial capabilities, and how does this create the structural potential to actualize previously inaccessible opportunities? Employing a multiple-case study design and critical incident interviews, this research uncovers the hidden causal powers driving this phenomenon. The study proposes that human-AI interaction activates three mechanisms: algorithmic alertness, AI-enabled bricolage, and data-driven validation. These forces shatter previous cognitive barriers, conceptualizing AI as a powerful enabler of opportunity actualization.

ABSTRACT

Service-learning is a teaching method that combines classroom instruction with community service. The idea is that students and communities both benefit. But research has mostly asked one side of the story. A systematic review of 145 articles on service-learning in business education found that only two directly mentioned community impact. Community partners have been part of this pedagogy for decades, but we have seldom asked how they experience it. This study asks a simple but overdue question: How do community partner organizations in the Philippines experience their engagement with service-learning programs in business education? Using Sikolohiyang Pilipino (Filipino Psychology) as its theoretical lens, the study draws on the constructs of kapwa (shared identity), loob (relational interiority), and diwa (collective consciousness) to understand partnership experiences that Western frameworks may not adequately capture. The research follows a qualitative multiple case study design using the Gioia Methodology, with focus group discussions conducted through pakikipagkuwentuhan (shared storytelling) involving five to eight community partner organizations in Metro Manila.

“Beyond Compensation: The Influence of Internal Corporate Social Responsibility and Organizational Citizenship Behavior on Teacher Turnover Among Divine Word Educational Association Schools in the Philippines”

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the critical issue of teacher turnover within the Divine Word Educational Association (DWEA) schools in the Philippines, where attrition rates have recently exceeded 30%. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory (SET) and Social Identity Theory (SIT), the research examines the relationships among Internal Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR), Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), and Turnover Intention (TI). Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 283 full-time teachers across 17 non-profit, mission-driven institutions.
Reliability analysis confirmed the robustness of the adapted scales (Cronbach’s α > .88). Simple and multiple regression analyses revealed that both ICSR and OCB significantly and negatively predict Turnover Intention. Furthermore, ICSR was found to be a strong positive predictor of OCB. However, a bootstrapping mediation analysis rejected the hypothesis that OCB mediates the relationship between ICSR and TI. This finding suggests a "Dual-Pathway" mechanism wherein organizational support influences retention directly, independent of the employee's engagement in citizenship behaviors. Dimensional analysis identified "Employee Training & Development" and "Workforce Diversity" as dual drivers of both retention and engagement, while "Work-Life Balance" emerged as a critical hygiene factor influencing retention exclusively.

The study concludes that mission alignment alone is insufficient to mitigate turnover and proposes a "Fulfilling the Mission, Retaining the Missionary" HR strategy that emphasizes the formalization of support mechanisms rather than reliance on a vocational ethos.
