On March 26, 2025, the Catch-Up Literacy Program culminated in a heartfelt closing activity held at Bagong Diwa Elementary School (BDES), celebrating the dedication and progress of learners from both BDES and Hospicio De San Jose.
The day began with the final round of tutoring sessions, where learners engaged in focused literacy and numeracy activities. For the remaining half of the day, an awarding ceremony was held to recognize the outstanding efforts and achievements of students who consistently participated in the program.
Notable recognitions included Best in Reading, Best in Mathematics, and Best in Writing, awarded to students who demonstrated exceptional improvement in their academic performance. In addition, special awards such as Reading Progress Award, Enthusiastic Learner Award, and Perseverance Award were given to acknowledge the learners' growth, eagerness, and resilience throughout the program.
The ceremony was more than just a moment of recognitionโit was a celebration of academic growth, mutual dedication, mentorship, and the transformative power of education.
This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of student tutors and faculty members from the Philippine Normal University (PNU), alongside the committed educators of BDES and Hospicio De San Jose. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together in the spirit of service and learning.

The third day of the tutorial session took place at Bagong Diwa Elementary School (BDES) on March 19, 2025, continuing the initiative to support young learners in their academic journey. This particular session was geared toward helping elementary students prepare for their upcoming periodic examinations, with a strong emphasis on two core subjects: English and Mathematics.
During the one-and-a-half-hour session, tutors worked closely with the students to reinforce their understanding of basic mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and divisionโessential skills for building a solid foundation in numeracy. In English, the focus was on enhancing students' reading comprehension by guiding them through the reading and analysis of age-appropriate children's stories. These exercises aimed to strengthen not only their decoding and vocabulary skills but also their critical thinking and interpretation abilities.
Adding a colorful and vibrant touch to the day, learners from Hospicio de San Jose showcased their much-awaited dance performances, under the guidance of tutors from the Bachelor in Culture and Arts Education program. This lively segment gave students the opportunity to explore their creative side, celebrate their talents, and express themselves through the performing arts.
These engaging activities were carefully crafted by the tutors to ensure the holistic development of the learners from BDES and Hospicio de San Jose, fostering not only academic growth but also creativity, self-expression, and confidence.

On March 12, 2025, pre-service teachers from Philippine Normal University (PNU) officially commenced their reading and numeracy tutoring program for learners in Bagong Diwa Elementary School (BDES) and Hospicio De San Jose. The program started at 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM for grades 2 and 3, while the tutoring program for grades 4 and 5 was scheduled from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on the same day.
Over a hundred learners from different sections are benefitting from this 1:1 tutoring program, with the full support of tutors from the Bachelor in Culture and Arts Education, Mathematics and Science Elementary Education, and Science Education with Specializations in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Following the result of the needs assessment conducted on March 5, 2025, which highlighted challenges in reading and numeracy, the program focused on strengthening these two learning areasโ building a solid academic foundation for the future success of these students.
