ICYM | ​Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School and the SSLG proudly celebrate the outstanding performance of Wenzel Mae Palmares and Trisha Xytel Villan at the Palarong Pambansa 2026 held last May 24-31 in Agusan del Sur.

​Competing against the best in the country, our girls showcased exceptional skill and teamwork, securing a phenomenal 4th Place finish in Futsal Girls for the Davao Region.

EARLIER | More than a thousand residents lined the streets of Nabunturan as the remains of Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia passed through the municipality en route to his hometown of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.

Students, athletes, teachers, and community members gathered to pay their final respects to the young basketball standout, whose life and promising career came to an untimely end. The overwhelming turnout reflected the profound impact he made not only as an athlete but also as a source of pride for his community.

Baterbonia rose to national prominence as one of the country's most outstanding young basketball players, leading the Davao Region team to a historic championship run in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa and earning the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Yet beyond his accolades, many remembered him for his humility, discipline, and unwavering dedication to his family and dreams. His journey—from a young athlete in Agusan del Sur to a rising national prospect—became an inspiration to countless students who saw in him the possibility of overcoming obstacles through hard work and perseverance.

As the convoy continued toward Talacogon, the crowd left behind more than a farewell—they left a testament to a legacy that transcended sports. In mourning his loss, the community also celebrates a life whose influence will continue to resonate long after the final whistle has blown.

His footsteps may no longer echo on the court, but his legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those he inspired. Rest in peace, MVP.
