This Independence Day, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism of the Filipinos who fought for our freedom. Their struggle reminds us that liberty was not freely given. It was earned through unity, resilience, and love for the nation.
Today, the meaning of independence extends beyond our history. It challenges us to become responsible citizens in a world facing misinformation, social division, corruption, poverty, environmental concerns, and threats to democratic values. True freedom is not only the right to speak and choose; it is also the responsibility to act with integrity, respect, and compassion for others.
As we commemorate this day, may we remember that the battles of our generation are different, yet equally important. We fight not with weapons, but with education, truth, critical thinking, civic engagement, and a commitment to nation-building. Every act of honesty, every effort to uplift our communities, and every voice that stands for justice contributes to the progress of our country.
Let the legacy of our heroes inspire us to become agents of positive change. May we continue to protect the freedoms they fought for and work together toward a better country that is more united, inclusive, and empowered for future generations.
Kalayaan noon ay ipinaglaban; kalayaan ngayon ay ating pananagutan. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

DID YOU KNOW that before lechon became Cebu'a popular delicacy in the postwar period, Talisay had already been recognized as the Lechon Capital of the Cebu due to this woman? Susana Enjambre, recognized as the Mother of the Lechon Industry in Talisay, initiated the lechon business before the war since Talisay was one of the summer vacation destinations during the American period. She was born on January 2, 1886, and she was married to Dionesio Enjambre. According to newspaper articles from the Bag Ong Kusog, lechon business in Talisay started as early as the 1930s.
