Kohsar University Murree aims at Serve to Solve as per UN SGDs
It's my privilege to create a strong sense of purpose for this university by transforming the existing challenges into opportunities due to its: strategic location. The government's revolutionary step to promote one of Pakistan's least exploited potentials, i.e., Tourism linked with quality hospitality management. Travel and Tourism is one of the leading industries around the globe with approximat
ely US$ 8.9 trillion share contributed alone, in the year 2019-Pre-COVID-19, i.e., 10.3 % of the world's GDP. Also, tourism has created one out of ten jobs globally, and Pakistan's share in this, according to UNWTO, is only 3% of Pakistan's GDP. This ratio is lower at both global and regional levels which the current government considers very low
Kohsar University will be instrumental in reconstructing this industry by preparing the skillful workforce equipped with 21st-century technologies, social and cultural skills. Kohsar University will create an Ecosystem to directly address the UNSDG's challenges such as No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water & Sanitation, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Action & Partnerships. There are multifold advantages of linking these initiatives around the significant industry of Travel & Tourism, which has been affected by natural calamities such as epidemics and pandemics like COVID-19 and due to the prevalent Sanitation & Hygiene, Environmental pollution. Linking recreational or scenic tourism with all other types of tourism, i.e., religious, cultural, heritage, and adventurous, by connecting the dots from Gwadar to Gilgit Baltistan and other mesmerizing Northern sites will help in creating a prosperous tourism industry. Despite the growing number of PhDs, we were unable to tackle the pandemic strategically, exposing our decadeโs long weaknesses by ignoring Education & Health. The edifice of any sustainable Education & Research Ecosystem system, may it be scientific or social, stands on three fundamental pillars: Appropriate workforce (trained relevant experts, competent personnel), Adequate Infrastructure (space, physical environment, equipment, library, etc.), and Openness by developing strong International Linkages/Connectivity with globally well-placed players, companies, industry, centers or Universities. The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant threat to public health and leads to heightened psychological, social, economic, and security concerns. The industrial revolution and growth in the S & T lead globalization process have tremendously increased the chances of exposure to infectious diseases, which may turn into epidemics that subside quickly or emerge as occasional pandemics like the Spanish Flu of 1918 SARS-CoV-2 of 2019-2020. The most effective way of swiftly dealing with such economic and health concerns is to track them to establish clear epidemiological links to prevent further transmission. Developing effective control strategies to restrict the spread of naturally emerging infectious diseases will be a never-ending threat to our Health Ecosystem and Economic Ecosystem. International cooperation based on S&T by Science Diplomacy linking with the Travel & Tourism Diplomacy will undoubtedly help in portraying the image of Pakistan at Global Scene and catching the attention of Worldโs top scientists and their association with Kohsar University Center of Excellence in Infectious Diseases and their control with global health perspective. Science Diplomacy has proven to be a robust process that drives the Nations to work closely to address Global Challenges-Health, Food Security, Peace & Partnerships-SDGs. Economists have related the factors such as shortage of human capital, physical capital, and technology or its inefficient use to the stunted economic growth of any country, and Kohsar University in this regard will provide a conducive, tightly linked environment based on ONE HEALTH-ONE ECONOMY-ONE SOCIETY to prepare future workforce in various relevant disciplines
