Inspired by a 2D concept artwork by artist 渔人登, our student Taqwa (.ghost) transformed the richly detailed scene into a 3D environment.
The scene incorporates Art Nouveau influences with Arabian-inspired architecture, and was crafted for both real-time rendering and VR. The environment’s centrepiece, an astronomical clock featuring octopus-like tentacles, was also fully rigged and animated to bring subtle movement and life to the scene.

What does world-building look like in practice? Student Xavier Tan gives us a glimpse with "Dor Lone", a gothic fantasy world inspired by Renaissance-era kingdoms, where towering churches shape society and cults thrive in the shadows.
To develop the visual language of this world, Xavier used photo bashing, a technique widely used in the concept art and games industry where existing photographic references are composited and painted over to rapidly prototype mood, atmosphere, and aesthetic direction.
Swipe to meet his characters. 🖤
