“When a 12-year-old can solve their entire worksheet using a WhatsApp screenshot, you know the education system has hit a wall. AI isn't just coming; it’s already in their pockets. If schools don't start setting 'AI-proof' questions that prioritize deep thinking over rote answers, we’re going to lose the battle for genuine learning."

Lesson 1

Tutor : Hi student, today is lesson 1. I am your tutor, teacher Lisa.

Student: hi teacher Lisa.

Subsequent lessons… student noticed that the tutor repeated the same introduction before lesson started.
Out of curiosity, the student asked, “why do you always start with saying today is lesson one?”
Tutor smiled and replied, “ this is because every lesson is with u is just like first lesson, I have to teach you everything from scratch.”

Often , the greatest challenge of a tutor is not when it takes a longer time for the knowledge to reach the brain but the knowledge makes a U-TURN and exit before it reaches the brain.

My coaching diary :
Work first and rest later or rest first or work later.

My P3 student said that she was tired while doing a test paper, so I offered her to take a 3 mins break in between her test. Surprisingly, she replied, “let me finish first then I take a break. Mummy said one.”
‘Wow!’ I was taken aback by her reply cos that is not her usual self but I took the opportunity to ask her, “what’s the difference between one who do first then rest and one who rest first then do?”
“People who do their work first then rest are likely to be more successful than people who rest first then do. People who do their work first have time to do their work better and produce better result. People who rest first are called procrastinator. They will push their work to the last minute and then rush to finish before deadline. Do you think they will do a good job?”
She shook her head. I knew she got it.

Many parents asked me, “ I have engaged so many tutors for my child but why is he not showing improvement?”
My first question : how is his attitude?

Attitude comes before result. If we want a child to improve his grade, we have to work on their attitude first.

A parent asked me how ready was his son for PSLE. I threw him a full mid year paper and result was - he did extremely badly. Bad to the extent that shocked his dad. He asked me why.
I explained to him that his son was always given short tests which comprise only one to three topics. As a result , when he faced a consolidated paper, he was lost.
The father, in a fit of anger, kept all his gadgets and games.
Well , does it help ?
Partially! It frees up some time but the boy needs direction.

June holiday is crucial - this is can be done to prepare a child well for national exam
1) do a check list on all the topics tested and go through the concept.
2) assign the child full mocked exam paper on regular basis.
3) mark and extract the mistake and get him to redo
4) highlight all his mistakes and link them to the original concept

The child should have an exam notebook for each subject to list down all his mistakes for future reference.
If you need a checklist and guided schedule, simply leave a comment

My coaching diary
- integrity in learning

I gave my student a simple 10-question word problem test. It wasn’t difficult—but almost all her workings were wrong.

When I asked her to check her notes, the truth came out: she had skipped some when I asked her to copy the questions.

I asked, “On a scale of 1–10, how focused were you?”
Silence.

I told her gently, “Results don’t lie. What you put in is what you get out.”

Tears welled up—but we didn’t dwell there.

“Do you still want to improve?”
“Yes.”
“So what should we do?”
“Let’s do it again.”

And we did.

Questions 1–3: I guided her.
Questions 4–5: she tried with some help.
Questions 6–8: she did everything on her own—perfectly.

Same student.
Same questions.
Different attitude.

Before she left, I asked, “Can you see the difference?”
She smiled and nodded.

Often , ability comes after integrity and effort. The child must be willing to acknowledge, commit whole heartedly before result can be seen.
