“In 2021, an MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) injury kept me away from volleyball. Not being able to play was frustrating,” shares Republic Polytechnic School of Sports and Health - RP SSH student Sarah Camelia. “But going through physiotherapy showed me how much progress is possible with consistency. Watching myself return to my favourite sport made me realise how impactful a physiotherapist's role is — not just guiding you through rehabilitation, but celebrating your milestones with you. That made me want to do the same.” 🏐

Sarah's recovery sparked a calling — and inspired her to secure a place in the Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (DSES) through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE). 👏

“Initially, I wasn't very confident about meeting the Minimum Entry Requirements, especially knowing that DSES is one of RP's more competitive courses,” reflects the CHIJ St. Joseph's Convent alumna. “EAE focuses on interests and aptitudes, so it gave me a better opportunity to secure a course that fits my long-term goals.” 💪

A former member of the National Youth Development Squad for Volleyball, Sarah continues to chase her through multiple Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs). Alongside RP Volleyball, she is part of the SSH Club and is passionate about dance. As a member of Style Groovaz Crew, she performed at NDP 2025 and pushed through a ruptured Anterior Talo-Fibular Ligament (ATFL) to complete Emergence - A Freshie Debut Showcase, going for surgery only two days after the performance. 🤸

“This experience taught me that resilience isn't just about enduring pain — it's also knowing when to lean on others for support,” Sarah shares. “Now studying modules like Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Kinesiology, and Injury Prevention and Management, I'm learning the clinical reasoning behind rehabilitation plans, which prepares me for my future studies.” 🩹

Sarah plans to study Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney, building the foundation to help others recover and return to what they love. 🌱

“RP's Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) gave me the opportunity to be assessed based on my passion, interest, and potential in events planning and management,” says Nur Hurin Binte Abdul Rahim, a graduate from Republic Polytechnic School of Hospitality - RP SOH. “Receiving a conditional offer before my O-Levels gave me the confidence to pursue what I truly wanted and take charge of my future.”

Having planned and hosted events at Zhenghua Secondary School, Hurin chose RP's Diploma in Integrated Events Management (now known as Events & Project Management) as her first choice.

One of the factors that drew her to the diploma was RP's problem-based learning approach. “I felt that I wouldn't just be memorising content, but learning how to apply concepts to real-world situations,” she shares. “The environment challenged me to think critically, speak up, and collaborate with others.”

Hurin also credits RP with helping her become a more independent learner, encouraging her to analyse challenges, explore solutions, and take ownership of her learning.

Her internship with OnePeople.sg let her apply her event management skills in a meaningful setting. Working closely with her programme manager, she supported the end-to-end planning and ex*****on of engagements. These experiences taught her to approach every opportunity with humility, reinforcing her belief in lifelong learning and shared knowledge.

Beyond the classroom, Hurin was equally passionate about giving back to the community. Through the Youth Corps Singapore Leadership Programme, she worked alongside like-minded youths and Ground-Up Initiatives (GUI), promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement through interactive activities that inspired youth action. She also facilitated art activities for residents at a nursing home.

📅 EAE applications for O-Level students open from 25 June to 1 July.

“I was growing my confidence and needed some extra support,” shares Republic Polytechnic School of Applied Science - RP SAS student Janice Chong. “But I was clear about my passion. So applying for the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) was a natural choice.” 🔬

Janice is in her second year of the Diploma in Biomedical Science. Her sights are set on becoming a genetic counsellor. Her journey to RP wasn't without hurdles. Health issues in secondary school caused her grades to slip. But she pushed through on her own. She turned her low scores into four distinctions at O-Levels. 💪

“RP's problem-based learning showed me that applying the knowledge is what truly matters in healthcare,” reflects the Greendale Secondary School alumna. “Understanding how healthcare systems work matters more than memorisation.” 🧬

Beyond the classroom, Janice gives back where she can. She supports patients at Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital. She tutors primary school children through the Budding Sprouts programme. She shows up with . 💖

“Looking back, I went through a lot to be where I am now,” Janice shares. “Volunteering taught me how to handle patients. It taught me to approach others with more empathy.” 🌱

“Balancing work, family, and academic commitments required real discipline,” says Joel Ng, Investment Director at Markab Capital. Now in remission from cancer and father to two-year-old twin boys, he knows this better than most.

Joel recently graduated with a Specialist Diploma in Environmental and Corporate Sustainability. He returned to school at 41 — not just to stay relevant in his career, but to keep moving forward after one of the hardest chapters of his life.

“This diploma helped me better evaluate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors when assessing long-term investment decisions. But it also reminded me that personal growth is often a collective effort, supported by family and loved ones,” Joel adds. “My wife was also upskilling, so we took turns caring for the twins on class nights. That shared commitment meant more than any lesson in the classroom.”

This Father's Day, we celebrate fathers like Joel, who show up quietly, deliberately, and with for the people who matter most.

“This is a new wellness concept in Singapore and Asia, and it will offer our students unique opportunities and exposure,” said RP Principal and CEO Ms Jeanne Liew.

RP is pleased to announce a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore to advance talent development and innovation in the wellness and hospitality sectors. The partnership is led by Republic Polytechnic School of Hospitality - RP SOH, the only institution in Singapore with a dedicated hospitality school.

Therme Group is an international developer and operator of large-scale urban wellbeing destinations. It was awarded a Singapore Tourism Board tender to develop Asia’s first large-scale urban wellness destination at Marina South, adjacent to Gardens by the Bay, slated to open around 2030.

Ms Liew highlighted that the partnership will go beyond training, spanning applied industry projects and CET programmes co-developed with Therme Group. These will focus on enhancing operational efficiency and customer experience through technology, while also building capabilities in wellness professional certification and service excellence.

She added that students will benefit from internships and final-year projects, gaining deep industry exposure across hospitality, wellness, F&B, engineering, and sports science — within a rapidly emerging wellness concept that is new to Singapore and Asia.

Mr Tan Boon Khai, CEO of Therme Group Services (Singapore), and Ms Jeanne Liew, Principal and CEO of RP, signed the MoU at the Therme Group Services Groundbreaking Ceremony at Gardens by the Bay, graced by the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Ms Grace Fu.

“The most meaningful part of my work is helping people through difficult moments,” says Muhammad Zikry Haziq Bin Mohammad Fairul, a Republic Polytechnic School of Business - RP SBZ graduate and Ground Response Force (GRF) Officer with the Singapore Police Force. “It's always gratifying to see the relief on people's faces when help arrives.”

As a GRF Officer, he patrols and responds to calls for assistance across the community.

Drawn to RP's immersive learning approach, Zikry applied for the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) through the Early Admissions Exercise while still a student at Fuhua Secondary School (FHSS).

“I've always been interested in psychology and understanding human behaviour,” he says. “Modules such as Introduction to Counselling left a lasting impression on me. They showed me how words and actions can positively impact others, reinforcing my aspiration to pursue a career helping people in need.”

He credits his time in DHRMP with helping him develop strong communication and critical thinking skills — both of which he now relies on when engaging with residents and responding to a wide range of frontline situations.

Zikry had long aspired to become a police officer and actively pursued opportunities to move closer to joining the Singapore Police Force.

“I applied to RP through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) because it allowed me to pursue my Diploma in Business while continuing to train as a athlete with the Singapore Sports School,” shares P*e Colleen, a Team Singapore Bowler.

RP was Colleen's first choice. It gave her the flexibility to keep competing in bowling while studying business management, marketing, finance, and operations.

The ITE College Central alumna credits RP's Problem-Based Learning approach for her growth, both academically and personally. “It encourages us to think critically, participate actively, and apply what we learn to real-world situations — deepening our understanding beyond just theory,” she says. The interactive learning environment also helped her stay engaged while balancing her training commitments.

Looking ahead, Colleen hopes to keep competing for as long as she can. “Representing Singapore on the international stage has always motivated me,” she shares. “Eventually, I aspire to work in the sports industry, where I can contribute to its growth and support future athletes.”

Her advice for students considering EAE to RP:

“RP opened doors I never anticipated,” says Sasindren Jaya Sanger, a Republic Polytechnic School of Engineering - RP SEG graduate. “From a school trip to Bangalore, where I heard inspiring startup stories, to emerging as the Champion of RP's iDARE Challenge, RP gave me opportunities to pursue my passion for both engineering and business.”

At Unity Secondary School, Sasindren discovered his passion for Design and Technology. Keen to combine engineering with business and entrepreneurship, he applied to RP's Diploma in Engineering Design with Business (DEDB, now known as the Diploma in Engineering) through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE).

In his second year at RP, Sasindren discovered RP's Entrepreneurship Bootcamp and signed up to explore his interest in startups. Through the programme, he visited startups to learn about their journeys, exchanged ideas with aspiring entrepreneurs, and learnt how to develop business ideas and turn them into compelling pitches.

Eager to put his entrepreneurial knowledge into practice, Sasindren and his friends joined the Entrepreneurial Immersion Programme (EIP) in their third year. Together, they developed Stroke Guard, an AI-powered system designed to detect early warning signs of stroke. Their innovation went on to win the championship at RP's i-Developing Aspiring Ready Entrepreneurs (iDARE) Entrepreneurial Challenge.

“These opportunities helped me step out of my comfort zone. I learnt how to network, communicate my ideas confidently, and even pitch in front of a crowd during the iDARE competition,” shares Sasindren.

At RP, aspiring entrepreneurs get opportunities, mentorship, and industry connections to bring their ideas to life.

“It's very easy to start feeling like you're falling behind, but it's never too late to start building your portfolio.”

For Republic Polytechnic School of Applied Science - RP SAS alumna Sam Pei Yi, this rang true in Secondary 4, when she was weighing up whether to apply to RP through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE). Juggling O-Level preparations with building a portfolio and preparing for interviews felt overwhelming at first.

“What drew me to the Diploma in Environmental and Marine Science (DEMS) was realising that many of my school activities and interests kept pointing back to environmental science,” she said.

During her time at Commonwealth Secondary School, Pei Yi took a STEM elective that explored real-world issues such as biodiversity conservation, food resilience, and climate change. “I was very interested in research, problem-solving, and innovation,” she said.

Driven by this passion, Pei Yi built a strong EAE portfolio from her leadership experiences in secondary school, including serving as President of her school's Eco Club. She also included passion projects such as independent research on bird strikes — incidents where birds collide with man-made structures.

She entered DEMS at RP through EAE, went on to receive the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science, and was recognised for her on the environment and community during her course. Her inspiring journey was recently featured in Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 and The Straits Times.
