From 2-5 June, 150 Yr 3 student leaders from SJI and St. Patrick’s School came together for the annual 4D3N Lasallian Leadership Training Camp (LLTC).

Organised by SJI’s Yr 5 and 6 student leaders, LLTC 2026 centred on the theme Invictus — a Latin word meaning unconquered and undefeated.

At the heart of LLTC was the conviction that true leadership begins with service. Through Journey, the camp’s signature two-day service-learning experience, participants stepped beyond their comfort zones to engage with and serve different communities across Singapore.

Partnering with NASCANS' school-based student care centres, our student leaders spent time with children from Endeavour Primary School, Horizon Primary School, Jiemin Primary School and De La Salle School. Through games, activities and meaningful interactions, they brought joy and encouragement to the children while learning the importance of empathy, patience and human connection. What began as simple moments of play soon blossomed into friendships marked by understanding and mutual respect.

On the second day of Journey, participants partnered with Central Singapore Community Development Council - CDC to serve elderly residents living in one-room rental flats along Bendemeer Road under the Silver Homes programme. Together, they decluttered, cleaned and painted 18 homes, helping to create safer, healthier and more welcoming living spaces. Yet beyond the physical transformation of the homes, it was the conversations shared, stories exchanged and quiet moments of companionship that left the deepest impression on our students.

LLTC 2026 reminded our young leaders that leadership is not about titles or being in charge. Rather, it is about having the courage to serve, the humility to listen and the willingness to walk alongside others with compassion and purpose. It is heartening to see, through the reflections of our participants, a deeper appreciation for their own blessings and a renewed commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

As Lasallians, may they continue to lead not by seeking to be served, but by choosing to serve — becoming men and women for others, and a force for good in our communities.

The 116th Annual Track and Field Championships stood as a testament to the enduring traditions of SJI. With the theme, "Legacy in Every Stride, Future in Every Finish," the event bridged the storied history of Josephians past with the vibrant energy of the current student body.

The championships were designed with three pillars of purpose:

~ Unity: To bring the entire school together, fortifying class spirit, fraternity bonds, and the overarching SJI school spirit.
~ Wellness: To promote active participation and a healthy lifestyle among both students and staff.
~ Character: To encourage a high standard of sportsmanship alongside the pursuit of sporting excellence.

The momentum began on 25th April 2026 at the Temasek Polytechnic Stadium, where the Heats took place. Athletes pushed their limits in the scorching sun, securing their spots in the finals and setting the stage for an intense inter-fraternal showdown.

On 20th May 2026, the SJI community congregated at Bishan Stadium. The atmosphere was electric, transformed by the sea of fraternity colours and the deafening cheers of supporters. It was a day filled with spirited competition and the warm camaraderie that is the hallmark of our school community.

The event was more than just a series of races; it was a cohesive display of fraternity pride. From the explosive sprints to the gruelling long-distance events, every athlete carried the weight of their fraternity’s legacy.

The joy and energy vibrating through the stands served as a powerful reminder of the strength found in our "fraternity of brothers."

On 29 May 2026, SJI proudly held its Student Leaders Investiture, a significant occasion celebrating leadership and commitment within our school community.

The ceremony served as an opportunity to recognise the contributions of our outgoing student leaders and officially invested the incoming cohort of leaders from the Creative, Activity and Service (CAS), Co-Curricular Activities (CCA), Student Council and the Prefectorial Board Executive Committee. As they assume their new responsibilities, these Josephian student leaders are called to serve with integrity, courage and dedication.

We were also honoured to welcome student leaders from various junior colleges and secondary schools who joined us in witnessing this important milestone.
The investiture ceremony was truly heartwarming and inspiring showcasing the strong school spirit and sense of community.

We thank our outgoing leaders for their dedication and invaluable service and congratulate our newly invested student leaders as they begin their leadership journey.

We wish our new student leaders all the best as they take on the responsibility of serving the school and the trust placed in them. May they continue to lead by example, inspire those around them and uphold the values of SJI in all that they do.

The SJI Debate Society has achieved a historic milestone at the 2026 MOE–Anglo Chinese Junior College Intercollegiate Debate Competition (MIDC), held from 4 to 6 June. Widely regarded as Singapore's most prestigious local debating competition, this year's tournament featured 21 institutions from across the country.

After six rigorous preliminary rounds, Team SJI secured four wins and advanced to the Quarterfinals as the 5th-ranked team. Demonstrating courage, confidence and intellectual rigour, they went on to reach the Semi-Finals, marking the furthest that SJI has ever progressed in the competition.

Competing against some of the nation's most accomplished debating teams, the Josephians distinguished themselves through their wit, analytical depth and integrity. Across eight debates, they tackled a diverse range of topics, including fossil fuels, food delivery services, criminal law and even the world of superheroes.

The team also earned several individual accolades:
~ Patrick Nott Pei De (MN616) – 7th Best Speaker Overall
~ Bonifacio Dillan Vittorio Gyula (ML512) – Best Speaker, Round 1
~ Jedidiah Eo Shou (MN619) – Best Speaker, Round 6

The MIDC 2026 team comprised Jedidiah Eo Shou (MN619, Team Captain), Kwek Ngan Kat Xavier (ML615, Team Vice-Captain, Patrick Nott Pei De (MN616), Goh Qing Yang Esmond (FN605), Bonifacio Dillan Vittorio Gyula (ML512) and Ignatius Liong Yao Koon (LE608, Reserve).

This achievement reflects not only the team's hard work and perseverance, but also the strong spirit of community within the Debate Society. Current and former Josephian debaters and teachers came down to support the team throughout the competition, exemplifying the bonds that continue to unite the Josephian debating family.

The school extends its heartfelt appreciation to Coach Harish for his dedication and guidance, and to the teachers and alumni who supported the team along the way.

Congratulations to our Josephian debaters on this outstanding achievement. Their success is a testament to the intellectual curiosity, resilience and integrity that define the Josephian spirit. SJI is immensely proud of all of you.

What a night to remember! On 15 May (Fri), the SJI Founder’s Hall was once again filled with the boisterous noise, cheer and laughter from some not-so-young teenagers when our alumni from the Class of 2000 to 2015 gathered for the first of a series of Homecoming events as part of the lead-up to the school’s 175th Anniversary in 2027.

It was a truly joyous evening of "Honouring our Legacy" as our Josephians reconnected with their friends and teachers, many of whom they had not met since their last day in school. From browsing old Josephian Annuals to touring the familiar grounds, the air was thick with nostalgia. Whether it was going back to the classroom they once studied in or the chapel where many prayers were offered in times of need, everything looked so familiar.

Many alumni shared that entering the school gates was like stepping into a time machine, taking them back to their carefree teenage days. Many were glad to meet up with more than 35 teachers present, catching up and expressing gratitude for the work they do to "touch the hearts" of (the students) entrusted to their care. The night ended on a high note, the SJI way, with the singing of the School Rally, a powerful reminder that we are all part of one enduring Lasallian family.

Thank you to the nearly 300 alumni and teachers who came home to kick-off our countdown to SJI’s 175th Anniversary in 2027.

The Singapore Astronomy Olympiad (SAO) is Singapore’s premier Astronomy and Astrophysics competition, designed to challenge students in the application of STEM knowledge with a focus on Astronomy and Astrophysics. The Olympiad also serves as a platform to identify and select students who may represent Singapore at the upcoming International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), which will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam later this year.

22 students from SJI participated in the 13th Singapore Astronomy Olympiad, which was hosted at NUS High School of Mathematics and Science on 9 March 2026. Our students performed commendably, with seven students earning awards for their outstanding achievements.

Lee Jung Han (LE606) was awarded the Silver medal, while Esmond Goh (FN605), Wong Yau Hang (FN602), Jonas Aden Ching (LE608), Brianna Kamalakumar (MN618), and Shravy Jindal (ML511) each received Bronze medals. Zachary Goh Shao Ke (MN619) was also recognised with an Honourable Mention.

These accolades reflect the students’ dedication and excellence in this prestigious national competition. The Olympiad consisted of two rounds. The first round featured a two-hour multiple-choice examination covering a wide range of Astronomy and Astrophysics topics. The second round, lasting four hours, comprised three sections: Theoretical, Data Analysis, and Observation. Participants were free to attempt the questions in any order.

The Theoretical section included multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response questions, with a strong emphasis on computational astronomy and astrophysics. The Data Analysis section required students to engage with authentic astronomy research questions involving graph plotting and basic statistical analysis. The Observation section tested participants’ practical knowledge through the identification of telescope components and the observation of celestial objects and constellations in the night sky.

Congratulations to all our award recipients for their remarkable accomplishments in the 13th Singapore Astronomy Olympiad.
