The Passion of an Inventor: The Class of 2026 Graduation Mascot Journey!🔥

What does it mean to “Shape the future you want to see”? For the KRSS Class of 2026, it meant taking on a unique commission: to design a graduation gift that serves as both a legacy memento and a physical manifestation of our school values.

💡 Developing 21st Century Competencies (E21CC) This wasn’t just an art contest. Our students stepped into the shoes of inventors, using Inventive Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration to move their ideas from abstract visions to production-ready blueprints. Whether it was the “Meticulous & Majestic” Phoenix or the “Bold & Unyielding” Buff Boi, every design showcased the Passion of an Inventor in action.

🗣️ Strengthening Student Voice & Agency We believe in the power of student voice! Our graduates didn’t just receive a gift; they created it. A total of 28 designs were submitted from 47 students were received and a massive 78% voter turnout across the cohort came together and made their “voice and choice heard” to select the design that best represented their journey. We are proud to recognize and affirm our students’ efforts through presentation of the Passionate Learner’s Awards.

✨ Creating Their Own Inspirations From the Heart of a Saint to the Will of an Olympian, these designs are more than just cute characters—they are unique reflections of student identity.

🏆 The Big Reveal! The Students’ Choice is officially here! A huge congratulations to our student designer from Class S4-3 for the winning design: Flamezy which perfectly embodies our F.I.R.E values. Look out for Flamezy as the 2026 Graduation Gift!

🚀✨ CAREERS DAY 2026: REIMAGINE YOUR FUTURE ✨🚀
👩‍⚕️👨‍🔬👩‍🎨👨‍⚖️👨‍🌾🐾
What do a biotech scientist, veterinary nurse, lawyer, social worker, creative director, event producer and urban farmer have in common?
They all started with a dream, explored opportunities, and took purposeful steps towards their goals.
On 28 May 2026, our Secondary 2 students embarked on a journey of career discovery at Careers Day 2026, a signature ECG experience designed to help students explore the world of work and imagine the possibilities that lie ahead.
🎤 Through inspiring keynote presentations by Dr Jason Leong, President of vaHPM Asia Pacific, and Mr Zullikhan Abdullah, Event Creative Producer and Technical Director, students gained valuable insights into the realities of work, educational pathways, and the importance of resilience, adaptability and lifelong learning.
💡 Students then attended two career sharing sessions of their choice, where professionals from a diverse range of industries shared:
✅ Their career journeys and experiences
✅ Skills, values and competencies required for success
✅ Educational pathways and post-secondary options
✅ Hands-on activities that brought their professions to life
🎭 To add to the excitement, students came dressed as careers they aspire towards, transforming the school into a vibrant showcase of future doctors, engineers, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, social workers and more.
As part of our ECG journey, students were encouraged to reflect on:
🌱 Who am I?
🌍 Where do I want to go?
🚀 How do I get there?
Through authentic interactions with industry professionals, students developed a deeper understanding of the world of work, discovered the many pathways available to them, and took important steps towards making informed decisions about their future aspirations.

Beyond Frontiers: Learning Beyond the Classroom – Work Experience Programme 2026
What does it take to become a healthcare professional, engineer, educator, business leader, designer, scientist or entrepreneur?
Over the past week, our students stepped beyond the classroom and into the real world through the Kent Ridge Secondary School Work Experience Programme (WEP).
Our students learnt about the real world of work by learning about the industry, participating in authentic workplace tasks and gained valuable first-hand insights into the daily realities of different industries and careers. More importantly, they experienced how knowledge, skills, values and E21CC equip, enable and empower the future of work.
Through their attachments, our students:
🔹 Explored 13 companies and organisations across 8 diverse industries
🔹 Experienced real work processes and workplace expectations
🔹 Learnt from industry professionals and mentors
🔹 Developed E21CC and workplace skills such as communication and collaboration skills, adaptive thinking and information skills
🔹 Gained a deeper understanding of the educational pathways and qualifications that lead to different careers
🔹 Reflected on their interests, strengths and aspirations for the future
The WEP provided students with opportunities to connect their learning in school with the world beyond school, helping them better understand the possibilities available to them after secondary school. By seeing professionals in action and learning about their journeys, students were inspired to think more deeply about their own aspirations and the steps they can take towards achieving them.
As our students continue to chart their pathways beyond secondary school, we hope that these experiences will empower them to make informed decisions about their future and motivate them to work purposefully towards their goals.
A big thank you to all our industry partners and mentors for opening your workplaces, sharing your expertise, and investing in the growth of our students. Your support has made a lasting difference in their learning journey.

Ruth, Zhiyu, Sarah, and Erin from Class 3-7 represented Kent Ridge Secondary School at the 5th Social Innovation Hackathon organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 19 May 2025. Their proposal on improving the lives of seniors with dementia earned them a place in the Finals held on 29 May 2026.

We hope to see even more Kent Ridgeans step forward to participate in Design Thinking competitions, champion innovative ideas, and develop meaningful solutions to real-world challenges.

Shenzhen TIE Trip 2026 – Wrapped Up
Throughout the trip, we had the opportunity to visit schools, explore leading technology companies such as Tencent and UBTECH, and experience various cultural landmarks. Seeing how innovation and technology are shaping the future was both inspiring and eye-opening.
Beyond gaining new knowledge, the trip challenged us to step out of our comfort zones, think creatively, adapt to new environments, and appreciate different cultures and perspectives. Working together, overcoming challenges, and learning in a new environment encouraged us to grow both as learners and personally.
This journey not only broadened our perspectives on technology, education, and culture but also strengthened friendships and created unforgettable memories that we will cherish for years to come.

Shenzhen TIE Trip Day 4
Today’s journey through Tencent (腾讯)showed our students that innovation is more than technology — it is about ideas, culture, and vision. At Tencent’s incubator centre, students explored how ideas become real businesses, inspiring them to see themselves as future creators and problem-solvers.

Hiking up Lianhua Shan Park (莲花山公园), students reached the hilltop plaza to stand before the bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping. Looking out, they enjoyed a breathtaking, panoramic view of Shenzhen’s futuristic Futian skyline. The incredible view of the city center showed them how Shenzhen connects its high-tech present with its historical roots.

Experiencing a drone delivery brought the future to life, sparking conversations about automation and how quickly daily life is changing.

Ending the day at Shenzhen Civic Centre (市民中心)reminded students that great cities are shaped not only by technology, but also by leadership, community, and long-term vision.

If you could design one part of a future city, what would you change for the next generation?
