The Department of Peace and Development Studies concluded its Peace Week celebration on Friday, 5th June 2026. The day culminated in a keynote address by the Minister of Youth, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, and a message from the Guest of Honour, Professor Joe A. D. Allie, which offered hope to today’s youth and instilled in them the need for a peaceful nation.

PADS Marks Peace Week with Campus Cleaning Exercise

The Director of PADS, Dr. Tommy Matthew Hanson, together with staff and students of PADS, engaged in a cleaning exercise at the Bo Campus, Towama location, in celebration of Peace Week, which will climax tomorrow, 5th June 2026.

The initiative saw members of the PADS department clearing litters, sweeping, brushing surroundings, and beautifying the campus environment as part of activities to promote peace, unity, and civic responsibility.

The DVC Bo campus commended the turnout and emphasized that maintaining a clean environment reflects the values of peace and respect that Peace Week seeks to uphold.

Such an exemplary act of service by the PADS leadership, staff, and students is worth emulating.

Njala University's Bo Campus today hosted a delegation from the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) of the Office of the President for a Management and Functional Review Inception Workshop aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery within public universities.

Welcoming the team, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, reaffirmed the University's commitment to improving its academic and administrative systems, noting that the review would support ongoing efforts to align the institution with emerging trends in higher education and digital transformation. The Director of Higher Education, Mr. Emmanuel J. Momoh Esq., also highlighted the importance of the exercise in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of tertiary education in Sierra Leone.

Chief of Programmes for PSRU, Mr. Albert R.C.E. Williams, explained that the review will involve stakeholder consultations, institutional assessments, and the development of recommendations to improve governance, organizational structures, and service delivery. He noted that the process will culminate in an implementation framework to guide reforms and support the long-term growth and effectiveness of public universities.

The Njala University Distance Matriculation and Orientation Ceremonies continue this morning at the Lunsar Centre. Today’s session is particularly remarkable as it also includes the graduation of thirty-one students from programmes under the School of Basic Education at Bo Campus.

The Chairman of the Ceremony, Dr. Ahmed Adakwa Koroma, Director of Distance Education at Ernest Bai Koroma University, in his opening remarks, thanked the University Administration for expanding educational opportunities to the Lunsar community, especially at a time when critical mining activities are taking place in the area.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, who was earlier praised by the Director of the Centre for Pedagogical Excellence as a forward-looking leader, is expected to deliver the welcome address and also confer certificates on the graduates at the Lunsar Centre.

The Njala University Distance Matriculation and Orientation Ceremonies are currently ongoing at the Kono Centre, held at the Sahr Sessie Gbeinda Hall in Koidu Town.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, has just delivered his welcome address, urging students to remain disciplined, hardworking, and to abide by all the rules and regulations of the University.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Ceremony, Dr. Phillip Foday Yamba Thulla (Associate Professor), assured students of the importance the University places on the Distance Education Programme, emphasizing that it is in no way inferior to the regular programme.
