"IPAM’s Faculty of Information Systems and Technology Hosts Open Dialogue with Final Year Students in Collaboration with NatCA and Other Industry Sectors"

In line with the Strategic Repositioning, Rebranding, and Transformation Agenda of the College, the Faculty of Information Systems and Technology at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, has on Thursday, 11th June,2026, successfully hosted a one-day experiential learning symposium for final year students.

Held at the National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA) Auditorium at its Hill Station office in Freetown, the symposium brought together key industry and corporate institutions. Participants included NatCA, Zenith Bank, Africell, QCell, Orange SL, Zood Labs SL Ltd, the National Cybersecurity Coordinating Centre, and ISP LeoneCom. Representatives from each institution shared insights on their roles in developing Sierra Leone’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure.

In his opening statement, the Director General of NatCA, Mr. Amara Brewah, commended IPAM’s initiative of “Taking the Sector to the Students.” He described it as a bold step aimed at equipping the next generation of ICT and telecommunications leaders in Sierra Leone with practical knowledge. He encouraged students to serve as ambassadors for NatCA, particularly in correcting public misconceptions about telecommunications. Mr. Brewah further proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NatCA and IPAM to formalize collaboration in ICT training and teaching methodologies, and internship opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of the Dean, Dr. Oludolapo O. Akinyosoye-Gbonda, Mrs. Finda Mbriwa expressed the Dean’s appreciation to all participating institutions for dedicating time to share experiential knowledge with students. She appealed to corporate institutions, particularly those present at the symposium to open up internship placements for final year students and emphasized IPAM's anticipation of stronger collaborations. Mrs. Mbriwa reiterated the call for a formal MoU between IPAM and the National Telecommunications Authority.

The symposium was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technology, Heads of Departments, the Head of the Statistics and Students’ Information Unit, administrative staff, and final year students from Information Systems, Information Technology, and other faculties.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Alhaji Bangura, a lecturer in the Faculty of Information Systems and Technology, conveyed IPAM Management’s sincere appreciation to NatCA and all participating institutions for sharing their expertise and expressed hope that internship opportunities would be created for students. He affirmed the College’s commitment to mutual collaboration within the ICT sector and encouraged students to take full advantage of these opportunities, noting that such industry exposure was limited during earlier generations of university education.

*"IPAM Reaffirms Commitment to Lead Next Phase of Erasmus+ SLEEK 2 Project"

The “Entrepreneurial Ecosystem, Networking, and the Designing of Industry-Integrated Entrepreneurship Assignment Agenda” will continue to strengthen pedagogical skills across academic institutions in Sierra Leone and beyond. This collaborative effort involves the Centre of Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEEI) at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone; the Entrepreneurship Academies at the University of Makeni, Milton Margai Technical University, and the University of Management and Technology; Innovation Sierra Leone, an institution that continues to create opportunities for young people; FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences in Austria; and our project lead, the University of Alicante in Spain.

Your participation reflects a shared belief that entrepreneurship education is a powerful driver of economic transformation, innovation, and job creation. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, we are laying the foundation for the SLEEK Entrepreneurship Academy — a landmark initiative designed to strengthen entrepreneurial teaching and learning, build institutional capacity, and equip young people with the skills needed to become job creators rather than job seekers.

We recognize the remarkable progress already being made across Sierra Leone’s higher education sector. Entrepreneurship education is increasingly empowering students, youth, women, and local entrepreneurs with practical business skills, fostering innovation, strengthening links between academia and industry, and creating pathways to sustainable employment and economic growth. The SLEEK initiative builds upon these achievements by supporting the establishment of Entrepreneurship Academies, educator training programmes, and stronger partnerships between universities and the business community.

We are especially grateful to our national and international partners, including higher education institutions, innovation hubs, private-sector organizations, and the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme, whose support continues to make this vision possible. Together, we are creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem that will empower future generations, promote inclusion, support youth and women entrepreneurs, and contribute to sustainable growth and job creation throughout Sierra Leone.

As we move forward in developing the SLEEK Entrepreneurship Academy, we remain inspired by the dedication, expertise, and enthusiasm of all stakeholders. Your partnership is helping to shape a more innovative, resilient, and prosperous Sierra Leone for generations to come. Thank you for being part of this transformative journey.

On behalf of the Management of IPAM, we are pleased to express our willingness to lead the next phase of the Erasmus+ SLEEK 2 project.
