Juba International Airport is testing new lighting and air traffic management systems as part of preparations for possible 24-hour operations.
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority says the ongoing tests are focused on assessing coordination between the control tower and newly installed air traffic equipment.
According to Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson David Loputo, the transition from the old control tower to a new system requires careful testing to ensure all components function effectively together. He explained that the equipment must be assessed in coordination with the air traffic management system before full operations can begin.
Loputo added that, while the upgrades are still undergoing testing, the airport remains capable of handling late-flight requests when necessary. He noted that once the systems are fully tested and confirmed to be operational, authorities will officially declare the airport ready for round-the-clock service.
