กิน /kin/ is the everyday, casual word used in most situations. If you’d like to sound more polite or formal, Thai people often use:

🍽️รับประทาน /rab-pra-tan/
Used for food and medicine. Historically, it meant receiving something from a royal superior.

🍽️ทาน /tan/
A shortened form of รับประทาน. Many Thai people use it because it sounds polite and is easier to say. However, some people disagree with using the shortened form this way.

🥤ดื่ม /duem/
Used for drinks and beverages.

🇹🇭All of them mean “Right?” There’re just a few main words; others are variations. Here’s the evolution😆:
- ใช่หรือไม่ ➡️ใช่ไหม➡️ใช่มั้ย➡️ ใช่มะ, ใช่แมะ
- ใช่หรือเปล่า➡️ใช่รึเปล่า➡️ใช่เปล่า➡️ใช่ป้ะ

🤨ใช่เหรอ /chai ror?/ is quite different from others. You say ใช่เหรอ /chai ror?/ when you think it’s ไม่น่าใช่ (very less likely to be correct) and you’re full of doubt, disbelief, or shock.

😉นะ /na/ and เนอะ /nor/ are ending particles for confirming questions when you expect the answer ”Yes“ from the other person.

✏️Notes:
1) Since these question particles are informal language, Thai people might spell the words differently. Below are variations you’ll often see.

2) เหรอ /rer/ is the correct spelling but nowadays Thai people mostly pronounce it /ror/ (or /lor/😂. Please write “ror”, though). This is why many people write หรอ. No matter you write เหรอ or หรอ, we suggest you to pronounce it “ror”. It’s more natural.😊

🇹🇭ยุ่ง /yung/ doesn’t just mean “busy”. The core feeling of ยุ่ง is things becoming connected, tangled, involved, or chaotic. 💡You can imagine things all twisted together.

🔎Examples:
🌀Physical meaning (easy to see)
- 💇‍♀️ผมยุ่ง /pom yung/ = messy hair
- 🪢เชือกพันกันยุ่ง /chueak pan kan yung/ = The ropes are all tangled up.
➡️Things are twisted together and not organized.

🌀With work
- 📚งานยุ่ง /ngan yung/ = busy with a lot of complicated things
➡️Not just “many tasks”, but work pulling your attention everywhere.

Here, ยุ่ง means getting involved with someone in an unwanted way.
