🌱 SHIFT-MED Project | Advancing Green Governance in Partner Universities
Partners of the SHIFT-MED – Shaping the Future of Universities: Twin Transitions across the Mediterranean project recently held a coordination meeting to review the progress of Work Package 2 – Enhancing Institutional Capacity for Green Governance.
During the meeting, partners discussed the finalization of Sustainability Committees in the participating institutions, including the University of Kairouan, University of Jendouba, EL EMTIEZ Center, An-Najah University, and Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie. The discussion also focused on the completion of the Terms of Reference (ToRs) and the development of corresponding institutional action plans that will guide campus sustainability initiatives.
A key point of the meeting was the preparation of the upcoming capacity-building training sessions under Task 2.2, which will strengthen institutional leadership in areas such as Sustainability Leadership, Strategic Planning, Stakeholder Engagement, and Resource Management.
To support the coordination of these training activities, partners have been invited to contribute to a shared planning document, proposing training topics, speakers, and tentative dates. This collaborative process will ensure a diverse and impactful training program tailored to the needs of the participating institutions.

These efforts mark an important step toward embedding sustainability governance and environmental responsibility within partner universities, reinforcing the SHIFT-MED project’s commitment to supporting the green and digital transition of higher education across the Mediterranean region.

DAY 2 | SHIFT-MED Kick-off Meeting – Italy
📍 Naples, Italy | Hosted by Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope
The second day of the SHIFT-MED Kick-off Meeting focused on operational alignment, capacity building, and forward planning, ensuring a solid foundation for the project’s implementation phase.
Key highlights of the day included:
🔹 WP2 – Enhancing Institutional Capacity for Green Governance, with a clear definition of activities and partner responsibilities
🔹 Financial reporting procedures and compliance under Erasmus+
🔹 Discussion of upcoming project activities and milestones
🔹 Agreement on next consortium meetings and coordination mechanisms
🔹 Collective reflection, meeting conclusions, and partner evaluation
The day concluded with the release of attendance certificates and a cultural visit to the CartaStorie Museum – Historical Archive of the Banco di Napoli, strengthening collaboration through shared learning and networking.
SHIFT-MED now moves forward with clarity, commitment, and a shared vision for sustainable and digitally empowered universities across the Mediterranean.

The first day of the SHIFT-MED Kick-off Meeting successfully brought together project partners from Europe, Tunisia, Palestine, and Türkiye to align on a shared vision for the twin green and digital transition in higher education.
The day focused on:
🔹 Partner introductions and institutional perspectives
🔹 Project context, objectives, and overall structure
🔹 Work Packages, Gantt Chart, and project roadmap
🔹 Governance, roles and responsibilities (WP1)
🔹 Quality Assurance, Risk Management, and Communication & Dissemination strategies
This intensive first day laid the foundations for effective coordination, strong collaboration, and high-quality implementation across the SHIFT-MED consortium.

SHIFT-MED | Setting the Course for the Future of Universities
🌍 A shared Mediterranean journey toward greener and smarter universities has officially begun.
On 23 January 2026, the SHIFT-MED consortium came together for its Virtual Kick-off Meeting, marking the starting point of a collective effort to reshape higher education through the twin green and digital transition.
More than an introductory meeting, this first exchange laid the foundations for:
🔹 A common understanding of where our institutions stand today,
🔹 A shared roadmap for the next 36 months, and
🔹 A joint ambition to position universities as drivers of sustainability, digital innovation, and social inclusion across the Mediterranean.
🎯 The discussion focused on:
The strategic vision and core logic of SHIFT-MED,
Coordination across Work Packages and governance structures,
Collaborative digital workspaces,
Timelines, roles, and implementation pathways.
📌 Coordinated by the Université de Kairouan, SHIFT-MED brings together partners from Tunisia, Palestine, Türkiye, and Europe to support higher education institutions in becoming future-ready hubs aligned with the Green Deal, digital transformation, and quality assurance principles.
