The project develops a human-centred competence framework, a digital learn

FoH – Future of Healthcare is a European cooperation project focused on preparing healthcare education and training systems for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

🤖🩺According to Menlo Ventures' "2025: The State of AI in Healthcare" report, healthcare is now deploying AI at more than twice the rate of the broader economy! With major health systems aggressively adopting AI to reduce physician burnout (like using ambient clinical documentation) and improve patient care, the future is arriving fast.

But while AI offers massive potential for efficiency and better outcomes, technology alone isn't enough. As these tools handle more data and administrative work, the compassionate spirit of medical excellence must remain at the core of patient care. ❤️‍🩹

That’s where the Future of Healthcare (FoH) project comes in! As an innovative Erasmus+ initiative, we are dedicated to bridging the gap between rapid digital innovation and human-centric care.

Our mission is to empower healthcare providers through specialised training frameworks focused on three core pillars:
🔹 AI Literacy: Developing the technical proficiency to work effectively and safely with AI-enabled medical devices.
🔹 Ethical Responsibility: Ensuring AI enhances quality and safety while strictly upholding the dignity and autonomy of healthcare professionals and patients.
🔹 Human-Centred Care: Mastering empathetic communication and collaboration in an increasingly digital medical landscape.

Our goal is simple: To ensure that AI serves as a powerful tool that enhances the human touch in medicine. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

A brand-new report released by WHO/Europe (April 20, 2026) confirms what our FoH focus groups recently highlighted: while AI adoption is skyrocketing, our safeguards are lagging behind.

The Reality in 2026:

- 74% of countries in the region now use AI for medical imaging and diagnostics.
- Over 60% use AI chatbots for patient engagement.
This "legal and ethical uncertainty" is exactly what the FoH - Future of Healthcare project is tackling. As the WHO points out, technology is moving faster than the structures needed to govern it. Without proper training and ethical frameworks, we risk losing public trust.

This "legal and ethical uncertainty" is exactly what the FoH - Future of Healthcare project is tackling. As WHO points out, technology is moving faster than the structures needed to govern it. Without proper training and ethical frameworks, we risk losing public trust.

Our takeaway?
We cannot just "plug and play" AI into hospitals. We need:
1️⃣ Robust legal frameworks.
2️⃣ Transparency for patients.
3️⃣ Urgent AI literacy training for healthcare workers - which is exactly what we are developing right now!

The future of healthcare must be as safe as it is innovative. 🛡️✨

What do healthcare professionals actually need when it comes to AI? We stopped guessing and started listening.

The Future of Healthcare consortium has concluded its series of focus groups. These discussions were vital in confirming that while AI is a powerful tool, it requires a specific set of new competencies to be used safely and effectively.

What did our participants emphasise? The consensus was clear - future healthcare education must move beyond theory and focus on:
✅ Practical Evaluation: How to critically assess AI-generated data.
✅ Risk Awareness: Deep understanding of the limitations and potential biases of AI systems.
✅ Transparent Communication: Developing the skills to explain AI-supported decisions to patients in a clear, human way.
✅ Ethics First: Ensuring that technology never overshadows human-centred care.

What’s next? 🚀
These real-world insights are now the foundation of our work. We are using these findings to develop a comprehensive training framework and educational materials tailored to the actual needs of the medical community.

The future of healthcare is a collaborative effort between human expertise and smart technology.

FoH Focus Group in Czechia – Exploring AI in Healthcare
As part of the FoH – Future of Healthcare Erasmus+ project, a focus group was successfully held in Czechia by our partner Vysoká škola zdravotnická (Medical College, Prague), bringing together healthcare professionals, academics, and paramedics.
Participants shared valuable insights on the use of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare education and clinical environments, highlighting that AI is currently used mainly in learning, research, and decision-support contexts.
The discussion emphasized key challenges such as:
🔹 Limited trust in AI-generated outputs and the need for verification
🔹 Ethical concerns related to data protection, responsibility, and transparency
🔹 The importance of maintaining human judgement and clinical responsibility
A strong message emerged: AI should always act as a support tool, while healthcare professionals remain the final decision-makers, ensuring patient safety, empathy, and trust.
The findings will directly contribute to the development of the FoH Framework and training modules, supporting a balanced integration of AI into healthcare practice.
🙏 Thank you to all participants for their valuable contributions!
