Chaguanas South Secondary School proudly celebrated
Indian Arrival Day with a series of engaging and culturally enriching activities, coordinated by the Modern Studies Department. This observance honoured the legacy and contributions of East Indians to the national tapestry of Trinidad and Tobago, marking the historic arrival of the first indentured labourers in 1845.
The day's celebration began with a special morning assembly done by From 1.2, featuring the historical journey and contributions of the East Indian community.
In addition, a week-long cultural display was mounted in the school's library, showcasing artifacts, books, traditional attire, and informative posters. This exhibit offered students an interactive opportunity to explore the rich heritage, customs, and contributions of Indo-Trinidadian culture.
The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration of teachers across various departments, along with the valued support of the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS), whose resources helped enhance the educational depth of the display.
Together, these efforts created a meaningful and memorable celebration that not only honoured history, but also encouraged cultural appreciation and school-wide participation.
