SCHOOL SHOULD NOT ADD MORE STRESS TO FAMILY LIFE. AT MAS, WE STRIVE FOR IT TO DO THE OPPOSITE. At Mission Achievement and Success Charter School (MAS), we focus on removing the everyday barriers that can get in the way of learning. MAS students receive free meals, free uniforms, free school supplies, and free bus transportation. Families also have access to free before-school meals and programming, and support for after-school programming. And because MAS students have no homework, evenings can be used for rest, family time, and just being a kid.

This is what a supportive school community should look like: students focused on learning, families supported in real life, teachers supported in their professional development, and a school team committed to doing what it takes.

Know a family who could benefit from MAS? Please share this with them. A limited number of seats are still open for the upcoming school year, which starts on Aug. 5, 2026.

Apply today: https://bit.ly/MAS-Apply

THE WORLD CUP IS HERE, AND THE MAS STAFF IS READY! Since the first FIFA World Cup was played in Uruguay in 1930, the tournament has grown into one of the world's biggest sporting events. It’s a global stage where countries, cultures, families and fans come together through the game of soccer.

This year’s World Cup is especially historic. The 2026 tournament is the first to feature 48 teams and the first to be hosted by three countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Here at MAS Charter School, our teachers and staff are choosing their teams, backing their favorites, making their predictions, and watching the matches on television and online.

Here’s who they’re rooting for:

Brazil: 50%
USA: 16.7%
Germany: 16.7%
South Africa: 16.7%

Here’s who they think will win:

Brazil: 50%
USA: 16.7%
France: 16.7%
Germany: 16.7%

Here’s why some of our team members picked who they picked:

Mr. Damornie Mitchell, 6th and 7th grade math teacher, is rooting for Brazil. After Messi and Argentina won the last World Cup, he’s pulling for Neymar — “the prince who never became king” — to finally have his moment. Mr. Mitchell also predicts Brazil will win it all.

Ms. Carol Musweswe, 6th and 7th grade science teacher, is rooting for South Africa, but she believes Brazil will win the World Cup.

Dr. Janice Julal, Ed.D., high school leader at the Yale Campus, is rooting for Brazil because she loves their style of play... the flair, confidence, creativity, and the energy they bring to every match, she says. Dr. Julal believes Brazil’s history, depth and mix of young talent and experienced leaders make them a serious contender. However, she also sees France as a strong favorite to reach the final. Her dream matchup: Brazil vs. France.

Dr. O’Neil Ankle, middle school leader at Old Coors, predicts a Brazil vs. Spain final, with Brazil coming out on top.

Now we want to hear from our families, students, alumni, and community. Who are you rooting for? Who do you think will win it all?

Drop your team(s) in the comments.

Meet The Team: Alina Hughes, Kindergarten Reading Mastery Teacher 06/12/2026

MEET THE TEAM - MS. ALINA HUGHES, KINDERGARTEN READING MASTERY TEACHER: At our Old Coors campus, Ms. Hughes spends her mornings with 5-year-olds who arrive as students at the very start of their reading journey. She teaches Reading Mastery, guiding kindergartners through phonics, vocabulary, and building blocks that help reading click at an early age. She joined the team here at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School (MAS) in July 2015 and has taught kindergarten at both MAS campuses. Old Coors has been her classroom home for the past two school years.

Ms. Hughes’ path to early literacy work feels deeply personal. As a child, she did not read well until about age 10. Then, a kind and patient teacher helped her reach fluency. That memory still shapes how she shows up for students each day, with clear routines and plenty of laughter. She has also spent time as a Reading Mastery coach and traveled to another state for a professional development conference to deepen her understanding of the program. Outside school, she makes art for the joy of giving it to others, and her playlist leans heavy metal.

Meet Ms. Hughes in her own words using the link below:

THE MAS GRADUATE PROFILE IS HERE! What should every student be prepared to carry into the world after graduation? Here at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School (MAS), we’ve answered that question with the release of our MAS Graduate Profile, a one-page infographic that defines the knowledge, skills, habits, and mindsets students develop throughout their educational journey.

Built with input from educators, families, community leaders, and college and career readiness experts, our Graduate Profile outlines five qualities we believe help students thrive long after they leave the classroom:

1. Mindfully Resilient
2. Collegiately Prepared
3. Curiously Collaborative
4. Globally Attuned
5. Culturally Inclusive

As shared in our latest blog post (see link below), months of work aligned with New Mexico Public Education Department guidance have resulted in the infographic and more. Our Graduate Profile serves as a shared vision for student success, connecting academics, social-emotional growth, college readiness, cultural identity, and community engagement into one clear framework.

Please consider reading the full story using the link below and see how the Graduate Profile will help guide the MAS experience for years to come.

WAFFLEY PROUD! Our future 5th graders were honored at the end of the school year with a fun and meaningful “Waffley Proud of Our 4th Graders” celebration. Their morning began at each Mission Achievement and Success Charter School campus with a special brunch, where students enjoyed a well-earned treat after a year of hard work, academic progress, behavioral success, and personal growth. MAS families helped make each celebration possible by donating waffles, syrup, whipped cream, fruit, juice, and other items.

After brunch, some of the students took part in a hallway celebration through their elementary campus. Staff and classmates lined the halls to cheer them on with encouragement and high-fives, recognizing the courage, leadership, and positive example our 4th graders showed throughout the 2025-2026 school year.

This celebration gave us a chance to honor how much our students have grown at each campus, the leadership they’ve shown in classrooms and hallways, and the many ways they’ve contributed to our school community. Thank you to our 4th grade families for helping make this event so special. We are “waffley” proud of our 4th graders and excited to see all they continue to accomplish!
