Trip leader Kelly Shea recently organized an 8-mile hike for the Atlanta Outdoor Club from the Bartram Trail to Rabun Bald, giving hikers the chance to experience the breathtaking views from Georgia’s second-highest peak without taking on the full traditional route. Kelly's hike packed in plenty of challenge -- about 2,260 feet of elevation gain with some steep climbs -- and the scenic route (and glimpses of rhododendron) made every step worthwhile. Flashback in Atlanta Outdoor Club history: In August of 2019, Lisa Maldonado led an 8-day trip for the club to Slovenia. Nine members of the Atlanta Outdoor Club had a great time hiking up and down Stone Mountain (twice) and along the Cherokee and Kings Island trails at Stone Mountain. The adventure covered approximately 10.3 miles and included 1,700 feet of elevation gain. (Impressive!) Trip leader Clay Davies noted, "We were concerned that the mountain may be too slick with all the rain but we were pleasantly surprised to find it in good shape. We started with an overcast sky that burned off into a sunny day. Everyone did great and we had a great group of hikers." Learn more about our variety of events at atlantaoutdoorclub.com

Trip leader Deema Yazeji led two outstanding days of hiking for the Atlanta Outdoor Club over the final weekend of May, exploring some of the most beautiful trails in the North Georgia and North Carolina mountains. A special thanks to Deema for capturing these incredible photos from the weekend's adventures. On Saturday, her group hiked Yellow Mountain, enjoying a scenic climb to the historic fire tower, where they were rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. On Sunday, the adventure continued at Black Rock Mountain State Park, with hikers exploring the picturesque Edmonds and Tennessee Rock Trails. Our club is free to join. Atlanta Outdoor Club trip leader Mahsheed Khajav captured these stunning rainbow photos during a recent hike at Currahee Mountain. Mahsheed says her group was treated to the rare sight of not one, but two rainbows while enjoying a scenic 6-mile trek near Toccoa. What a colorful reward for a day on the trail!
