As JAMS closes out the semester, a couple of our team members worked to tag and collect genome samples on some of our newer girls!

“Hey y’all! I’m Kayleigh Smith, a fourth-year majoring in Animal and Dairy Science with a minor in Dairy Science, and I’ll be graduating this December. I joined the JAMS Team as a freshman, and I truly can’t explain how much this team has contributed to my growth as an individual, teammate, and professional. I came in with a background in showing dairy heifers and knew I wanted to pursue a career in dairy. This team has been such a valuable part of my time at UGA and has played a huge role in my development within the industry. JAMS has taught me more than I could have ever imagined while building so many important skills. This team, our herd, and the guidance of Dr. Bohlen over the last seven semesters have been such a blessing, and I’m so excited to take my passion for herd management to a new farm post graduation!”

The jerseys are always curious when going out on new adventures around the farm. These girls have been learning and refining how to be lead on a halter. Taking the time to work with them and being consistent allows them to steadily grow confidence!

“Hey Yall! My name is Mattie Mae Mathis, from Nashville GA. I am an Animal Bioscience major and a Dairy Science minor on the PreVet track. I am first year member of the JAMS team and was first introduced to the team when I was in Dr. Jillian Bohlen’s animal reproduction class. I plan to be a large animal vet with an emphasis on cattle. The JAMS team has given me hands on experience with Jersey cows and insight into the Dairy Industry!”

We might want to brag on this just a bit! 😊 Remember that we still have some of these great Jerseys for sale!

🏆 National Recognition for the UGA Jersey Herd! 🐄

We’re excited to share that the UGA Jersey herd ranked nationally for production this year—our first time ever!

In the 40–79 cow herd size, we placed:
🥛 9th in pounds of protein produced
🥛 4th in ME Protein
🥛 5th in ME Milk
🥛 7th in ME Fat

An exceptional accomplishment and a true team effort. Way to go, UGA Dairy team! 👏💙❤️

“Hi! I’m Sydney Stamper and I am a third-year majoring in Animal Biosciences and Biological Sciences. I’ve worked as a small animal vet assistant since high school and also work for UGA’s equestrian team! My career goal is to become a mixed animal veterinarian. JAMS team stood out to me because we really get to dive deep with learning about our cattle, engage with them, and place myself in real-world scenarios that will be beneficial for my future!“
