Can a Christian love their country without turning it into an idol?
As America approaches its 250th anniversary in a time of deep political division, this Foundry course invites participants into a thoughtful conversation about faith, patriotism, nationalism, and public life. Drawing on voices from the founding era to Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Dominic Erdozain explores the tensions between Christianity and nationalism while imagining what a more faithful and peace-centered vision of civic life might look like today.

What does faith have to do with politics? 🗳️
In Philippians 3:20, Paul and Timothy write, “Our citizenship is in heaven.” That means heaven is not only where the church is headed, but where it comes from. This heavenly identity shapes how believers live now—not guided by self-interest, but by the life of God’s reign on earth.
Our Scholar-in-Residence, Elizabeth “Ebby” Arnold, reflects on how this vision challenges us to think differently about political identity today.

What makes a good creator? Our Scholar-in-Residence, Elizabeth “Ebby” Arnold, reflects on this question through both Genesis and Frankenstein.
In Genesis 1, God creates by speaking—decisive, powerful, and transcendent. In Genesis 2–3, God creates by forming and breathing life—intimate, experimental, and collaborative. Each story shows a different aspect of divine creativity, reminding us that good creation can come through both command and compassion.
This post grows out of our Summer Book Club conversation on Frankenstein, now available to watch in full on our YouTube page. In Genesis 1, God creates by speaking—decisively, powerfully, and transcendentally. In Genesis 2–3, God creates by forming and breathing life—intimately, experimentally, and collaboratively. Each story shows a different aspect of divine creativity, reminding us that good creation can come through both command and compassion.

The Bible’s voices about death continue to unfold. While early writings saw death as a final rest, later authors began to imagine something more. Ecclesiastes wonders whether the human spirit might rise beyond the dust, and Daniel envisions resurrection and judgment born out of faith in God’s enduring justice.
Our Scholar-in-Residence, Elizabeth “Ebby” Arnold, continues her after-death Blog series—tracing how trust in God’s promises gave rise to hope beyond the grave.
