WHAT IS INSULIN?

Insulin is the most important hormone. It is produced by the pancreas and removes excess sugar in the blood. This is just one of its many functions. It also creates cholesterol and triglycerides. Insulin behaves like a KEY in the body.

We have 2.5 gallons of blood in our body. If you have more than 1 teaspoon of sugar in your blood, which most people do, then insulin will remove that. Normal blood sugar is 80mg/dL (per deciliter). Where does your body put it? It's going to put it first in what's called stored sugars, known as glycogen. That's in the liver and then in the muscles. It's kind of like a reserve of fuel that you can tap into between meals. Your body can only store 1700 calories of sugar. Most people consume more than this in one day.
So where does the body store the rest? The body store the excess as fat. The capacity to store fat is greater than sugar. You can store hundreds of thousands of calories in fat throughout the body, it's almost unlimited. 😳

Healthy fat is our main fuel source to run on because it allows us to survive between meals. Unfortunately, nowadays we don't tap into this reserves because there is so much available food.

Key Points:

▪︎Excess sugar is stored in the liver
▪︎Too much sugar is stored as fat
▪︎Insulin creates cholesterol
▪︎Insulin spikes block fat burning
▪︎The key to burning fat is lowering insulin

Liver Health & Why It's Important

To emphasize its importance, the liver is the SECOND LARGEST ORGAN in the body (the skin is the largest) and one of its primary functions is to FLUSH OUT TOXINS that can be harmful to us. Many other important functions include:

Making blood proteins that aid in clotting, transporting oxygen and supporting the immune system. Lipo proteins which carry cholesterol, as in LDL & HDL.

Manufacturing bile, a substance needed to help break down fats and pull out the necessary fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids, the necessary elements from our food for nutrients.

It makes new glucose from fat or protein. Helping the body store sugar (glucose) in the form of glycogen.

Helps us detoxify harmful substances in the bloodstream, including chemicals, poisons, drugs and alcohol. There are certain enzymes called phase 1 & phase 2 detoxification, where you're turning fat soluble toxic poisons into water soluble harmless particles so the body can get rid of them.

Breaking down saturated fat and producing cholesterol, like 1000mg per day.

It helps buffer excessive hormones. So for example, if there is too much estrogen it can help regulate that. If there is too much cortisol it can help degrade it so you don't have excessive amounts.
