Here is a free CS lesson hiding inside the World Cup. Parents, this one is for you.
That ball they are kicking this summer has a sensor inside it sending data 500 times every second. Cameras track every player's body, and AI builds 3D models that help make the offside call in seconds. What you see on screen is computer science doing its job in real time.
So next time you are watching with your child, ask one question: how do you think the computer knows exactly where every player is standing? That question is the doorway. That is data, sensors, and AI meeting the game they already love.
You do not have to be a coder to start the conversation. You just have to ask. We will handle the rest.
Save this for the next match.

Atlanta families — this is the kind of summer opportunity our kids deserve. Coding with Culture is proud to co-sponsor Code Your Anthem: Honoring the Queens of Hip-Hop with Beyond Code Collective. This free workshop is built for students ages 11–17 who love music, creativity, technology, or just want to try something new. Students will use EarSketch, a real music production coding platform, to create original beats while learning coding concepts through Python or JavaScript. They will also connect their work to the legacy of women in hip-hop and see that technology is not separate from culture — it is one more way we create, lead, and tell our stories. No experience needed. Equipment provided. 📅 Wednesday, June 17, 2026 ⏰ 11 AM–1 PM 📍 Tech Square, 75 5th Street NW, Suite 2030, Atlanta, GA 30308 👥 Ages 11–17 Register here: [LINK]

Your child is about to build something legendary. 🏗🖤

Introducing UJAMAA JR. Camp — a 4-day virtual experience where upper elementary and middle school scholars don't just learn about Black history and culture...

They build it.

June 15–18, your young builder will:

🏛 Create Black history and culture-themed worlds inside Minecraft Education Edition
💻 Write real code that brings their vision to life
🤖 Use AI tools to design, problem-solve, and innovate like the tech leaders they already are
🌍 Collaborate with a community of Black and Brown scholars who look just like them
This isn't just a camp. It's a confidence builder. A culture keeper. A pathway to the future.

We know you want more than a screen babysitter this summer. You want your child in a space that sees them, challenges them, and sends them back to you walking taller.

That's exactly what UJAMAA JR. delivers.

BUILDING THE FUTURE ON A FOUNDATION OF EXCELLENCE! 🏛️
At Coding with Culture, we don’t just teach tech; we cultivate the next generation of Black architects, engineers, and visionaries. Our latest project? Transforming “trash” into a tribute to the Yard. 🎓✨
Our scholars went from BRAINSTORMING TO BLUEPRINTING, using the Design Thinking Process to construct their dream HBCU campuses entirely from recyclables. We’re talking scale models of legacy, innovation, and pure Black joy. Because if they can dream the campus, they can build the future.
BEYOND THE CARDBOARD: LEARNING OUTCOMES
📍 THE DESIGN THINKING LOOP: Mastering the art of empathy-led design, rapid prototyping, and iterative testing.
📍 SCALE AND SPATIAL GEOMETRY: Translating 2D sketches into precise, proportional 3D physical models.
📍 SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING: Reimagining “waste” as a resource to solve complex structural challenges.
📍 HBCU LITERACY: Researching the architectural history and cultural significance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
CALLING ALL EDUCATORS AND ADMIN:
The standard CS curriculum often misses the “Culture,” but we don’t. Our scholars thrive when they see their heritage reflected in their hands-on work. It’s time to move beyond the screen and into the community.

I haven’t been able to hold back the tears long enough to post this. But the tears are tears of extreme pride and happiness.
My first group of Psi Phi Beta Step Team babies are all in college for the most part and the baby of the bunch Keeton is heading to HIGH SCHOOL. ❤️

(So much for that 😭😭) Rohan, Gabby and Keeton were the last of my steppers that were also my computer science students at Mary Lin. The foundation of what became Coding With Culture. I cannot wait to see what my babies do next. Coach is over the moon proud of you all. Job well done!!

Peace and Black tech brilliance, family! ✊🏾💻 Coach Victor here, and today we are breaking down one of the most powerful tools in your computer science toolbox: VARIABLES.

Whether you are in the 3rd grade just starting your coding journey or an 8th-grade scholar building your own apps, you need to know how this works! Let’s get into it.

📦 What is a Variable?
In computer science, a variable is simply a digital storage box with a label on it. It holds information (we call this data) that your program needs to remember. The coolest part? The information inside that box can change or vary while the program is running—which is exactly why we call it a "variable"!

Let’s break it down for the culture: Imagine you have a fresh, clear drop-front sneaker box in your room. You slap a label on the outside of that box that says "Game Day Kicks" (this is your variable's name). The box itself never changes. But the shoes you put inside the box? Today, you might store some classic Jordan 1s in there. Tomorrow, you might swap them out for some fresh Dunks.

The label (Game Day Kicks) stays the exact same, but the value inside the box updates whenever you need it to! In code, we do the exact same thing, but instead of sneakers, we store things like numbers, words, or user choices.

🔍 Where will you find Variables in a program?
Every app, video game, and website you use relies on variables to keep track of what is happening. Here is where you might spot them when you are building your own code:

🎮 Your High Score: When you are coding a game and your score jumps from 10 to 100, that score is being saved and updated inside a variable!

👑 Your Player Profile: When an app asks for your name and then says, "Welcome back, Malik!"—the code stored your name in a variable (like playerName = "Malik").

🔋 Health & Energy Meters: If your character drinks a potion or takes damage in a game, a variable is running in the background doing the math to update their health bar.

🎵 The Cookout Playlist: If you design an app to play music for the family reunion, a variable keeps track of exactly which track is currently playing so the music never stops.

You have the brilliance to be a creator, not just a consumer. Keep building, keep innovating, and remember—you are the blueprint! ✨
