My name is Natalie Cox and I can't wait to begin my journey as a Bluebird teaching third grade at OMES! I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UAB in Elementary Education, with a focus in Early Childhood and Literacy. I have been teaching for eight years, and the last six of those have been spent teaching third and sixth grade at Mountain Brook Elementary. My husband and I recently moved to Oak Mountain and have fallen in love with the community here. We have two children, Kenna and Kaden, who keep us on our toes! We also have two fur-babies, Lexi, an Australian Shepherd, and Goose, who is actually a cat. In our spare time, we love getting outside with our friends and family and enjoy all of the amazing outdoor options Oak Mountain has to offer! I can't wait for the 2026-2027 school year!

Hi everyone! My name is Megan Hinson, and I am beyond excited to join Oak Mountain as a 1st grade teacher this year! I am a proud Oak Mountain alum. I attended Oak Mountain Elementary, graduated from OMHS, and went on to earn my Elementary Education degree from the University of Alabama, where I performed with the Million Dollar Band Colorguard. I am so honored to be coming back to OMHS to coach the colorguard and give back to a program I love. After spending the past year teaching 1st grade in Auburn with my husband, we are happy to be home. Outside of school, I enjoy going outdoors and spending quality time with friends and family. I am so grateful to be a Blue Bird and cannot wait for this year!

My name is Jennifer McCord, and live with my family in the Oak Mountain community. Both of my children attended Shelby CountySchools, with my youngest graduating from Oak Mountain High School. For the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching kindergarten, second, and third grade—primarily at Vestavia
Hills Elementary East, along with one year at Mt. Laurel Elementary. I earned both my
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I feel truly grateful to have the opportunity to teach within my community alongside such supportive families, dedicated administrators, and amazing colleagues. I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year ahead!

Our amazing Bluebird Choir took a trip to Monark Grove, a senior living community to perform for them this week. They enjoyed getting to sing for such a sweet audience!

We celebrated our last Bus Rider of the Month today! Our students absolutely loved this new recognition each month. We are so proud of the way they showed their Bluebird Best on the bus, made good choices, and served as leaders for others. What a wonderful group of students to celebrate this year! Keep up the great work, Bluebirds! 💙🚌

OMES is super proud of our amazing Support Person of the Year, Mr. Gary Brown!! Mr. Gary was recently recognized at the Education Support Personnel of the year Reception. 💙❤️

Pizza with the Principals! 🍕 We had the best lunch with these kiddos! It was full of laughs, fun conversations, and lots of stories shared! Mrs. Cespedes and Ms. Hughey learned all about everyone’s favorite things, big ideas, and adventures. Such a fun time spent together! ❤️

It was Career Day at OMES!! Students had the opportunity to learn about many different careers and hear firsthand about a variety of professions. A huge thank you to all of the professionals who took time out of their day to come speak with our students, answer questions, and inspire future goals and dreams. Your willingness to share your experiences made this day both educational and memorable for our kids!👮🏽👨‍⚕️👷‍♀️

This week Mrs. Frisch’s class has been learning all about the solar system, exploring different landforms and creating informational teaching books about our planets. It has been such a fun and engaging end-of-the-year project for her class! 🌎 ✨ 🪐📚
