We have studied through books, joined crochet groups, used YouTube videos, free patterns, purchased patterns, and good old-fashioned trial and error. Intrigued by the hook and its manipulation of fabric/textile, many hours have been devoted to developing the craft, from learning to read patterns and diagrams to image interpretation.
