May 9 — NY 1920 One hundred years ago today … It was Mother’s Day in the US. New York paid special attention to mothers of the slain marines of World War I with an event in Central Park.

Let's look back at May, 1921 in NYC. On May 6, protesters greeted the revival of "Birth of a Nation," screening at the Capitol Theater, 51st Street and Broadway. Five Black people were arrested by the New York Police Department, including civil rights activist and future F.B.I. bogeyman E. Franklin Frazier.

105 years ago, it was a busy week for NYC law enforcement, with a police parade and even a police conference overseen by Commissioner Richard Enright. Earlier in the week, the police had clamped down on the city to prevent any demonstrations during May Day, guarding “the mansions of leading capitalists and jurists” to keep the ruling class safe.
