Hands-on lab activities are a hugely important part of our Access Biotechnology programming. Recently, students at New Mission High School participated in a lab where they learned about Hypercholesterolemia. This lab, in partnership between MassBioEd and MiniOne, has students use gel electrophoresis to determine which members of a family are heterozygous or homozygous for Familial Hypercholesterolemia. Thank you so much to Frances Kearns, Thomas Lauzon, and our own Sandra Luikenhuis for volunteering their time for a Career Panel at Carver Middle High School this week. We are so excited that our Access Biotechnology programming can bring experiences like this to our partner schools. We still have a few events coming up where we will be looking for volunteers - if you are interested, check out our volunteer webpage at https://www.massbioed.org/volunteer/ .
