This past weekend, IRCAD North America was proud to host the Bionic Reconstruction Conference (BReCON) – The Future of Integrated Upper Limb Surgical & Prosthetic Innovation.

Led by the OrthoCarolina Research Institute, this high‑impact, two‑day conference welcomed over 200 attendees, bringing together surgeons, therapists, prosthetists, and mental health professionals for an immersive, multidisciplinary learning experience.

Through expert panels, case‑based breakout sessions, cutting‑edge research presentations, and keynote addresses, BReCON delivered a comprehensive and holistic approach to the management of upper limb loss—highlighting innovation across surgical, prosthetic, rehabilitative, and psychological care.

We are honored to support educational programs of this caliber and to serve as a platform for advancing collaboration, research, and innovation in patient‑centered care.

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Carla Pugh, Professor of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Technology Enabled Clinical Improvement (T.E.C.I.) Center, to IRCAD NA yesterday for a lab on objective measurements of surgical dexterity and ergonomics. Dr. Pugh is a visionary leader in sensor technology research that helps quantify clinical skills and provide data-driven performance metrics.

Our executive director Dr. Dionisios Vrochides joined Dr. Pugh in our DIGISurg Center to showcase how far disruptive sensor technology has reached in the assessment of technical performance. A robotic pancreaticojejunostomy procedure model, as well as an augmented reality (navigation) laparoscopic hepatic tumor ablation model, were used.
