For those of you not familiar with me, my name is Samis Rose. For more than 20 years, my departed partner Billie and I created and sold handcrafted jewelry under our business name, Two of a Kind. We were members of the Carolina Craftsmen and sold at many juried craft shows such as Springfest, Festival in the Park and Taste of Atlanta. Due to health reasons, I'm now retired. But, for those of you
who are familiar with me, you know it's not in my nature to waste things-- whether they be durable goods or specialized knowledge accumulated over time. It seems that I have a plethora of both, so I've decided to put them to use. Beginning in January, I will be offering jewelry workshops at my apartment here in Charlotte. (fair warning-- I have two cats who may or may not attend-- one of them being 20 years old and the other being feral born and therefore frightened of anyone but me !)
Whether you'd like to pursue jewelry making as a career, or would simply enjoy a fun, creative afternoon, I hope to provide for either. Even if you've thought yourself bereft of creativity, I know from experience that everyone has that spark and I hope to nurture it through these workshops. Here's a breakdown of the details:
*The first workshop will be covering the method with which I'm most familiar-- Fabrication. We will be working with different gauges of wire and incorporating stone and metal beads.(The second series of workshops-- unscheduled at this point -- will deal with sheet metals and solder work.)
*To optimize everyone's time and effort, I've chosen a Saturday 3 hour format and limited participation to 4 per workshop on a first come/ first serve basis. However, I will try to offer enough workshop dates to accomodate everyone interested.
*There will be a small amount of supplies provided that will include not only practice materials, but also enough quality supplies to allow each person to create 2-3 pairs of original, finished earrings for their own. (a $60-$70 value alone) Loaner tools will also be provided.

Along with personalized instruction at the workshop, I also will be happy to provide support, source information and industry tips on an ongoing basis. If you have a question or problem that I can't speak to, I have a great support system of jeweler friends with whom I worked at craft shows. Speaking of those friends, if the workshops prove popular enough, I hope to invite them in for guest workshops in their fields. They include a copper jeweler and a goldsmith.
