One of our board members, Jen Jackson, proudly supports Katherine, a university student pursuing her medical degree in Guatemala.

Katherine recently shared an update about her experience working in a hospital — gaining hands-on training, learning directly from physicians, and caring for patients in her community.

“My first month I rotated in intensive care. It is very interesting to finally arrive at the hospital. This is my group that I work with throughout the whole semester. I have had to face many challenges, such as the death of some people. I have gotten to see miracles and how people we thought would never make it did make it. It is a very beautiful stage and one of a lot of learning. Serving the community, giving them medical care and giving them the treatment they deserve is what comforts me the most. The schedule is sometimes heavy but believe me there is nothing that fills me with more satisfaction than arriving home after talking with the patients, after attending to them, and doing what I like.”

This is exactly why the BFB Foundation exists — to open doors for young women who are ready to lead, serve, and transform their communities.

Boots on the ground in Guatemala 🇬🇹

This week, the BFB Foundation Executive Committee made a quick trip to Guatemala to strengthen the partnerships that make our work possible.

We had meaningful meetings with the nuns in Antigua, and were grateful that two sisters traveled from Xela to join us. Their dedication to the girls we support is extraordinary.

This morning, we also met with Universidad del Valle to explore how they can help us assess the effectiveness of our STEM labs and programs — ensuring we are creating measurable impact and real opportunity for our scholars.

We believe in stewardship, transparency, and doing the work well. 💛
