A lot of Untigering is resisting the impulse to constantly correct and control our children.
Instead of the parent being the primary locus of control and wisdom, we want to support our kids in developing their own agency, morality, and ability to problem-solve.
We want them to trust themselves.
The next time we’re tempted to step in and tell kids what to do, offer these questions instead.

Reposted from The words we choose in hard moments matter.
When a challenge shows up—big or small—we can model resourcefulness without rushing to fix everything.
Try these gentle, empowering prompts next time things don’t go as planned.
What other things do you do or say to encourage creative problem-solving?

Join us as we witness the amazing story of Bessie Coleman, the first African American female pilot.
Born into a family of sharecroppers, Elizabeth Coleman’s life took root in the field but ascended to unbelievable heights in the sky. One of 13 siblings, Bessie weathered segregation, racism, and financial barriers before cementing her place as a pioneer in the field of aviation. Far above the clouds, where “the air is the only place free from prejudice,” she blazed a path as Queen Bess, the first African-American woman and first woman of Native-American descent to hold a pilot’s license.

✨ Ever wondered why some people need total silence to focus, while others do their best work with music blasting?
It all comes down to sensory processing and how our brains keep arousal at just the right level.
Some of us need more input to stay alert, while others need less. This is part of self-regulation — adjusting our arousal so we can think, learn, and cope, even when the environment changes.
For children, this is much harder. They often use movement to regulate their brains and bodies. Forcing them to sit still can actually make focus harder, not easier.
When we understand and support a child’s sensory needs, we set them up to thrive. 💡
